I have a friend who loves Lupe and considers him one of the best and I totally respect his opinions on hip hop. It must be that popularity factory that seems to automatically turns people away. Same with Kendrick I think.

Lupe's not too popular. Not anymore. But he is one of the best lyricists and is completely underrated. He's the type of rapper that makes super thoughtful content meant to be dissected and decoded kind of like Aesop Rock. But only at his best, he has some not so great, dumbed down content that he claims the label made him do. But Food & Liquor, The Cool, Tetsuo & Youth and this album are all fantastic albums.

I love Lupe Fiasco. He is definitely outspoken. I feel you on the labels making him dumb down his content, especially on 'Lasers.'

I mean you can't tell me hasnt gained more popularity than alot of artists. His good stuff is what doesn't get attention, just the radio hits. But for alot of people that's all they know of him and all they expect to hear so I'm sure some don't even bother.
