I say just take the number one slots and put them against each other.

Ninetales 01-12-2017 08:41 AM

for me:

3. L'Orange & Kool Keith - Time? Astonishing
5. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
7. Death Grips - The Money Store
8. Danny Brown - XXX

It has features from all these people(Raekwon, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Domo Genesis, Scarface, BJ the Chicago Kid, Ab-Soul, Casey Veggies, Meechy Darko, Mac Miller) though and they contributed to decade defining works individually well except Raekwon since he's been around earlier that this.

Frownland 01-12-2017 08:48 AM

And Scarface. And that's some weak ass logic.

djchameleon 01-12-2017 08:51 AM

Yeah Scarface has been around for awhile but whatever.

I think it's still a good point though imo.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 01-12-2017 08:52 AM

tbh i think there are a lot of important hip-hop artists that have defined the sound of the decade that just don't have a release worthy of being on the list. earl, asap rocky, schoolboy q, elucid, open mike eagle, milo, etc. etc. especially earl and milo considering they're two of my favourite emcees, but their best releases came out rather recently and i feel weird placing them in a list like this so soon.

Frownland 01-12-2017 08:53 AM

Which Elucid album? Or are you referring to Armand Hammer?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 01-12-2017 08:59 AM

i'm not referring to a specific album, but of course it would have to be either armand hammer or his latest. i just consider him to be an important artist in the hip-hop scene atm without a release that i would consider to be top 10 of the decade. not that freddie gibbs release is, it's inclusion was kinda silly on my part.

edit - cult favourite's debut too, that album is hella tight.

well I do really like all of those albums (save mick jenkins which I would just call average) and its was VERY hard to let killer mike go this early

I'm not sure what 'decade defining' means, but as far as reflecting the changing sound of the time period, I would say long live asap definitely fits that bill. that being said, I believe it would have been voted off in the first round on this forum

ya this is basically my point. despite how important i would say the album is in the grand scheme of post-2010 hip-hop and the effects it has had on mainstream hip-hop and the new new york scene, i just don't think he has one project in particular that everyone on here would agree deserves to be on the list.
