Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-12-2016 09:28 PM

You still have two weeks. Some of us are just already familiar with albums, and others (Frownland) have personal vendettas against one of the greatest rappers of all time that is clearly effecting their (Frownland's) ability to vote.

Frownland 06-12-2016 09:48 PM

Kanye West is the greatest rapper of all time for people who are only aware of three or less rappers.

Goofle 06-13-2016 02:40 AM

Are we actually having lists of over 10 albums? Or are you just adding whatever people think deserve to be on?

Frownland 06-13-2016 02:48 AM

I don't think Pinata earned its place on the list tbh.

Goofle 06-13-2016 02:58 AM

Over half of the list could be considered undeserved. But looking back it seems as though there hasn't been too much discussion so it kinda makes sense.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-13-2016 06:05 AM

Yeah I agree, it's just no one really threw out any recommendations or reasonings for them so I took it upon myself to add albums that have been well recieved from that timeframe.

I say you split the nineties into East Coast and West Coast. Then the winners can duke it out.

Well the plan is to go until there are four albums left from each decade and then do a tournament style for the final 16 albums.

Alright. Already heard a few of these so I so should be fine. Good timing too because I'm in a modern rap kick as well.

Tristan_Geoff 08-07-2016 10:19 PM

Yeah, sorry about this Qwertyy.

I'm still interested and I have only a few more to listen to.

Tristan_Geoff 12-28-2016 03:56 PM

Bump

I have 4 albums I need to listen to out of 10s and I'll make the first vote.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-28-2016 05:07 PM

oh **** i forgot about this, yeah yeah lets get it going again.

Tristan_Geoff 12-28-2016 05:12 PM

Why isn't To Pimp a Butterfly on there instead of Good Kid?

Probably too hypey in the early stages of this thread to nominate it. Also I would say that GKMC made Kendrick the king of NY, while TPAB only affirmed it. That being said, TPAB is so much better that it's almost a joke to compare the two albums.

Frownland 12-28-2016 05:39 PM

Yes

Tristan_Geoff 12-28-2016 05:40 PM

How many we voting off? Have to get through four albums tonight and I'll be good.

Anyone else in? If so I'll set a new deadline, otherwise we can move on with the four of us participating I suppose.

Frownland 12-28-2016 06:03 PM

Hmm...I don't think Piñata has earned it's place.

Thelonious Monkey 12-28-2016 06:03 PM

Set a new deadline, I just need to listen to about 12 of those albums, and then we can start.

i actually agree, i just wanted lists to be as even as possible. anyone object to removing it?

also how much time will you need Violet? I have no problem adding another two weeks or so if it means more participation.

I've only got 8 to listen to actually. Can you give me a week at least? Probably could listen to one a day.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-28-2016 06:11 PM

okay, the new tentative date for voting will be January 7th. if you don't mind it would be nice if people could repost their votes from before, i believe it was only Goof and Frown that voted but i just want to be sure.

Tristan_Geoff 12-28-2016 07:01 PM

Lil Ugly Mane
Mick Jenkins
Shabazz Palaces
Freddie Gibbs

We changed MAAD City to To Pimp a Butterfly so vote accordingly.

Goofle 12-30-2016 09:34 AM

I've changed my post on this page accordingly.

Frownland 12-30-2016 09:46 AM

I'm gonna stick with my Kendrick vote too.

What makes you say that? His first three especially are some of the best rap albums ever in terms of overall quality imo

Good point! Graduation is in some ways less good. I have a soft spot for it because it really impacted me when it came out, and I whenever I listen to it, it brings back a ton of good memories!

I do like Flashing Lights but that's about it. I hated Stronger in middle school and I hate it now.

His lyricism and delivery are a running joke that he hasn't filled you in on yet and his production is pretty mediocre, despite how much everyone drools over it.

Gotta disagree about his beats. I really like his beats, and while his rapping is mediocre at best, it goes well with his instrumentals. Not all rap has to be lyrical, MF Doom and Kanye can make equally good songs Imo in different ways with different beats and levels of lyricism.

Edit: So for me I would say it depends on peoples tastes. If you prefer lyrical rap or are judging based on lyricism, than Ye wouldn't rank very high but I really feel almost all of his albums

Frownland 01-08-2017 12:02 AM

If the music calls for a ****ty rapper, I think that says a lot about the music. DOOM going over Kanye's beats could work out though.

I feel like songs like It All Falls Down wouldn't have worked with a rapper that was trying to spit, they would take too much away from the soul sample.

I'd love to hear MF Doom over a Kanye beat, but that wouldn't happen because now Ye doesn't even produce his own music anymore...
