Just a great time for hip-hop. Plus 36 Chambers literally keeps sounding better with every listen. It's ****ing incredible how devastating they were on the mic.

I kind of agree, as that's the era I grew up in. But I think that says more about human psychology than style of music. In any genre of music people will claim that the 'Golden Age' is some time between their teens and late 20s. There are kids today who think Kendrik Lamar is the ****, and in 20 years time will lament that the scene no longer has anything sounding like that. Last week I did a gig and an octogenarian came up and asked why I didn't do tunes people could relate to, like "Oh When the Saints".

I think I've only ever posted in this section about twice, which might give some clue as to my enthusiasm for this genre, but anyway, I'm here today because of http://www.musicbanter.com/games-lis...litz-game.html .

What do you think? Is the OP right in his assertion? I can't wait to have my lingering doubt resolved on this question that has nagged at me for years. ;)

na it wasn't the best time for hip hop. hip hop is currently growing and improving with every year. sure, trap music is boring and lethargic, but there is so much out there to be found that features innovative production and poetic lyricism all while bringing the genre to new heights.

i think more than any other genre out there hip-hop has benefited from the age of the internet

Golden age hip-hop was definitely a great time for the genre even though I wasn't alive to expeience it like I was with the rise and prominence of gangsta rap. Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, all of the Juice Crew like Big Daddy Kane and Marly Marl, BDP and KRS-One all of 'em came to be in the golden age. It might be some pretty basic ****, but most of it is still influencing even modern experimental hip-hop groups like Death Grips and Shabazz Palaces today. Golden Age is where hip-hop took flight and sort of took that step beyond Grandmaster Flash.
