I think there should be an "I don't listen to much rap, but HELL YEAH!" option.

Atmosphere = sweet. But I think I'll always like Brother Ali better.

For whatever reason, the snare is really, really high in the mix on most of the songs, to the point where it's distracting. Drives me nuts.

It's really not even close to being his best album.

i really do like Atmosphere, but i only have Seven's Travels. what else should i get?

I like Seven's Travels a lot.
I think God Loves Ugly is definitely his/their most overrated album.
Their newest commercial release (as opposed to free. He's developing the habit of giving his albums away) When Life Hands You Lemons You Paint that Shit Gold. Is pretty decent.
I really like Strictly Leakage, which is, as the name implies, available only by free download from his website. They just recently released another "leak only" album called Leak at Will, but I haven't had the chance to hear it yet. I've got to hand it to any artist who loves giving away his music as much as Slug does.

BlueCadet 07-18-2009 08:34 PM

They're good, but theyre not my favorite or anything. They were great when I caught them live in October and im going to be seeing them again in about a week.

The Leak At Will EP is excellent.

Also, Lucy Ford: The atmosphere EP's, is one of their best albums.

I only have When Life Gives You Lemons which I really like a lot. What else should I check out?

It's a group. Slug is the MC, Ant is the producer.

Of course, Slug doesn't rap about one thing, but he tends to lean towards lyrics that amount him to an escapist through alcohol type of character who has lots of trouble with women and suffers from self-loathing.

dnbDreamz 08-31-2009 03:46 AM

"you can't imagine how much fun we're having" wasn't a bad album either.

music_phantom13 08-31-2009 08:44 AM

Atmosphere's decent. I have When Life Gives You Lemons, but no real desire to find more to be honest. I may check out Seven's Travels at some point, as that seems to be coming up a lot as the next album to go to. Whoever said Eminem is better, I think you should leave. And not come back.

Kirby 08-31-2009 03:41 PM

A lot of people that like Atmosphere didn't like When Life Gives You Lemons as much as their other albums, if that makes you feel more compelled to check out their other music.

LoathsomePete 08-31-2009 09:04 PM

I still hold their best album as You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having specifically for the final song "Little Man", god damn I haven't heard a song that touching and personal in awhile.

"I can't teach much when it comes to woman
I drive safe and slow but don't know nothin' bout the engine"

Damn that has always resonated with me. That, and the self-deprecation later on.

legendzodiac 09-02-2009 07:06 AM

nah never heard of him.

jacklovezhimself 09-03-2009 09:56 PM

I have "Lucy Ford" and "God Loves Ugly".
I like them both but Lucy Ford was slightly better IMO.
What else should I get? and if anyone has a link to anything else, that'd be primo.

LoathsomePete 09-03-2009 10:01 PM

I'd recommend their 2005 album You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having, I'll see what I can do about finding you a link.

jacklovezhimself 09-03-2009 10:10 PM

thanks for the pm, mate!

I recently found out about the sad clown Eps. Does anyone have a favorite? I think he's up to 11 or 12 now.

There's some golden tracks hidden in those EPs.

Go get the entire SCB Summer 9 ("Sunshine"!!!, "Don't Forget"). Get all of SCB Dub 7 ("God's Bathroom Floor"!, "My Songs", "Lost and Found"). "Body Pillow". The Lucy Ford album grabs from SCB Dub 3. "The Rooster", "Less One", "Happymess"

Thirteen.

Some of them are DVD's (at least two that I know of).
Sad Clown Bad Dub 13 is a live DVD that comes with the Deluxe Edition of Lemons...

Their best album without a doubt in my mind is Overcast, the debut album. It was so ****ing lyrical, and the sound Atmosphere has is so different than the later works they don't even sound like the same band.

Atmosphere is the only reason I have ever given rap a chance. Picked up their cd in Minnesota about 4 years ago when I lived there. Amazing stuff.
Those are your shoes. These are my shoes. We've got issues

almonds 11-25-2009 01:25 AM

Yeah, Atmosphere's good. Just started listening during the middle of the summer.

333 11-25-2009 01:28 AM

I've been hook on them for a few months now. Great lyrical content and I love the beats even more. I work out to this album a lot lately. :)

Which album would that be?

It's funny how much slug bags on himself sometimes

Oops, I didn't even realize I didn't post the title of the album. That would be God Loves Ugly. Brilliant work. I love it.

Axiomatic Wiki 11-30-2009 04:21 PM

God Loves Ugly really never did anything for me. It was pretty much a huge transition album, when Atmosphere started to develop their pop rap that they are currently known for, and let up on the intense lyricism that made their first two works amazing. However, many of the songs on it, their rhymes just sound really wack to me.

I wonder what would have happened to the band if Spawn never left after Overcast. I would expect the latter albums would have kept the dynospectrum feel as their first did, but we will never know.

Damn, I forgot I had that one. That just proves that it didn't make that big of an impression on me. I've listened to it tons, it just never stuck. I'll download Seven Travels and When Life Hands You Lemons now though. Thanks!
