Reel Big Fish and Less than Jake are US pop punk, they're not ska. Just because you have trumpets doesn't make you a ska band. They're not ska! Prince Buster is ska. These bands mentioned above are clearly not!!!

Yeah man well said

Reel Big Fish used to be a ska band. On their early releases like Everything Sucks they had goofy lyrics and a tight ska punk sound. I think it was with the release of We're Not Happy Until You're Unhappy they abandoned their old sound and then it all went downhill. TBH tho they never were really great ska band to begin with haha

I can't say I'm a big fan of a lot of the current ska music, but I'm glad to see a ska history thread on MB.

I've only just in early 30's started to listen back to some Ska and I have to confess that it's mainly due to film. Guy Ritchie may have fallen off a cliff directing but Lock, Stock and Snatch introduced me to The Stranglers and The Specials.

What would you lot describe the genre of Pete Wingfield 18 with A Bullet? I'm a novice here so education thread seemed appropriate

Spot on, that's the starting point. Unfortunately there's only one original Skatalite that remains in the band that tours today as sadly most have passed away
