I like the toasters and the skatalites. I don't really have a way of getting introduced to bands other then that. I'll check out some of the bands people have listed.

If you like The toasters and the skatalites I would recomend Some of the more popular hellcat bands I.e. Slackers, hepcat, Pietasters. Deffinetly check out Close my eyes by the slackers you wont be dissapointed. Some other bands like that you may like Chris Murray, 2 1/2 white guys, eastern standard time, westbound train. As for bands like the toasters I would recomend Madness, the specials, The english beat, volcanoes, King Django, Skinnerbox, bad manners, laurel aitken.

Least they got horns in most of their stuff Less Than Jake's anethem is half punk nad half ska she's gonna break soon etc...

All_Nite_Dinah 02-15-2005 06:24 PM

Acctualy almost no Suicide Machines songs have horns in them, honestly at the risk of sounding like a fool I cant think of one that does. maybe something off of Destruction by Deffinition.

But just because a band has horns or dosnt dosnt mean they play ska or not. Nothing more than a guitar is really needed to play ska as illustrated by Chris Murray who I cant get enough of. MOst bands are just rock or punk with horns, not ska at all. I saw this terrible band the other day called urizen. There lead singer was like 200 lbs over weight and all of there songs were about chicks. They baisically played metal with a 4 piece horn section. the whole thing was a terrible crappy gimic. Then when it was all done I got to listen to everyone talk about how "ska" they were. it depressed me. The when a good band played (Umbrella Bed from MN) they left. Whatever...

I saw Hepcat with Rancid at the Joint in Vegas, and Hepcat OWNED that night. Their trumpet player Kincaide absolutely killed it, a couple hours after the show I recognized him in the Casino and played a few hands of blackjack and had a couple Jack and cokes with him. Great dude, Great band, Great night

austinsaysmeow 08-13-2008 11:50 AM

big d and the kids table is probably one of my faves as well as reel big fish, operation ivy and the aquabats

the-ottband 08-13-2008 01:36 PM

jackhammer 08-13-2008 01:57 PM

Good horn work is essential to heavy Ska for me.

No i'm not a drummer lol. No you can't listen to any music on Rate Your Music. Download last fm, type in a favourite band and it will play you bands who are similar. This way you get to hear new bands all the time.

starburst 11-19-2008 04:34 PM

madness, mustard plug, reel big fish.

hands down, those are my favs.

and of course less than jake....I don't know very many ska bands sadly. :(

jackhammer 11-19-2008 05:27 PM

Reel Big Fish do not deserve a Ska tag. Blink 182 with lazy skankin' maybe.

FaSho 11-19-2008 05:35 PM

You always have to make a comment about RBF JH, can't you let us listen in peace?

Reel Big Fish:

Capdown:

I know who I prefer.

christiancantarutti 11-19-2008 06:23 PM

Its good to see some real ska bands in here and not just the typical **** like Reel Big Fish and The Bossstones. Im into the whole slackers and bad manners.
Keep it up rude kids.

Astronomer 11-19-2008 06:41 PM

Reel Big Fish are terrible, I went to a dorm party a few weeks ago and it was all they were playing. I'd probably much rather a tarantula lay eggs in my ears.
