James.Rides 10-19-2008 02:04 PM

very very good band one of my personal favs. deeps roots in punk n dub really shows on theire first 2 albums but hey only seem to get better n better

dac 10-19-2008 04:13 PM

oh how i hate this band... nothing against them but a lot of people i know massively overhype slightly stoopid

FaSho 10-19-2008 06:19 PM

So you hate them...because they get attention? Wow, that's some serious hipsterism

dac 10-19-2008 08:42 PM

not quite... when people around you call them the best thing since zeppelin, that's some serious "wow this band is overhyped and not nearly that good" -ism

i don't care if other people like them, but when you throw it in my face, then i hate the band... don't worry, it's a personal thing, nothing against slightly stoopid

FaSho 10-20-2008 04:13 PM

Ahh I understand.

But do you like their music, overhyping aside?

dac 10-21-2008 01:27 AM

when i first heard them I was like "Ok, sound kinda like sublime, w/e, not too bad"

WWWP 10-21-2008 02:06 AM

I love this band.

jibber 10-29-2008 04:29 PM

best song by far is world go round feat. i man.

DyingPresence 02-05-2009 08:00 AM

Love their song 2 am.

Roemilca 02-05-2009 03:40 PM

Great stuff.
Dub influences, punk, slight third-wave ska noticible in some songs too.
Mostly punk though.

I am so hooked on "Above the Clouds" lately. I literally canot stop playing this song. But I also sense a very similar-to-Sublime thing going on. Any theory on why? Is there a connection between Slightly Stoopid and Sublime?

XtremeEclectic 03-13-2013 07:21 AM

A blast to listen to here and there, have a few songs on the car playlist!

Slightly Stoopid founding members were from Southern Cali just like Sublime. They were even signed to Bradleys label " Skunk Records" for a short time before Bradleys passing; so yeah there is definitelyb a strong connection between the two.

Slightly Stoopid has an identical sound and image. I really just kind of wrote them off when I saw their group pictures, which looked exactly like Sublime's group pictures.

They kinda have a decent sound, but if I want to listen to Sublime I'll just listen to Sublime.

misspoptart 03-15-2013 06:40 AM

Actually, a few of their other songs started sounding like 311 to me, especially "Nobody Knows." It's like identical to "Amber" by 311. But they came way before 311, I'm assuming?

Forward To Death 03-15-2013 07:12 AM

311 was around before. I don't really listen to their music, just heard a few songs here and there, but I do know they've been around longer than Slightly Stoopid.

All three bands are kinda samey in ways, but 311 just sounds way more generic to me, never could get into them.

Not identical sound, Slightly Stoopid messes around with a lot of Folk stuff and gets a lot of guest singers which Sublime rarely did. On their first few albums they had a heavy punk rock influence too, which Sublime did mess around with but not as extensively as Stoopid.

Similar? Yes. Identical, no way

I agree 100%.

BastardofYoung 03-17-2013 03:55 PM

They just remind me too much of Sublime. I think I owned "Closer to the Sun" at some point... gave it a listen and never bothered to go back to it. Downloaded the "Live and Direct" album at one point, thought their cover of "Used to Love Her" was mildly interesting, but it all just came across as half assed Sublime worship.

Just boring Dub and Raggae/Ska stuff that is like "Oh yeah, I smoke pot".

Lazy, half assed and boring band.

Yeah they definitely have a strong Sublime sound and influence but they also do their own stuff and have songs that don't sound like Sublime at all. I think it's a little unfair that you listened to at most 2 of their albums before you wrote them off.

Noone will ever compare to or eclipse Sublimes legacy, but Stoopid really did a good job at keeping what Bradley started alive and was able to do their own thing in the process.

BastardofYoung 03-17-2013 07:32 PM

Perhaps. But those 2 albums didn't impress me enough to really wanna give them anymore chances.

Forward To Death 03-18-2013 11:11 AM

I stand by my comments, and feel they are not just similar, but identical to Sublime. Even the vocals are similar. Don't get me wrong, I can tell the two apart, but that's because I've been listening to Sublime for a very long time. On first listen though, I could easily see someone confusing the two. I'll also go back to what I said about their image and marketing, it's all very similar to Sublime, if not identical.

It's also the reason why every time Slightly Stoopid is mentioned, Sublime inevitably ends up part of the conversation as well. Can you say you've ever talked about Slightly Stoopid without their similarity to Sublime becoming the main subject of the conversation? What are we doing right now? Haha.

It's like the same exact formula. I guess they can't be IDENTICAL, though, but still come on. Really, come on.

The music and yes even the look of Stoopid encompasses Sublime, but the vocals don't really sound like Bradley. Stoopid has two main vocalists with wildly different sounding voices. One of them sings really high pitched one the other has a more laid back flow.

I love Sublime, they are easily one of my biggest inspirations musically. Yeah I won't doubt that they are similar in many ways, there's no doubt that Slightly Stoopid wouldn't exist without them. I just think they also a lot of songs with their own style and sounds that Sublime didn't have.

Ive been listening to Sublime for a while too mang, and I get your point but I just respectfully disagree that they're identical.

Clifto 03-24-2013 03:38 PM

they are pretty darn good
