The Bug

Has anyone heard The bug-London zoo? I am totally hooked up on it. Can anyone recomend similar stuff? I need it big time:bringit:

I love that album. Unfortunately I don't think I have any recommendations though.

Hopefully somethin turns up. I know there's loads of dancehall (if you can call the bug that) out there, but it's hard to find what's what. we dont get any pirate radio where I live, so don't hear much. the bug make some wicked tunes...

Have you ever heard of Milanese? They're about the closest thing to The Bug that I can think of, you might like them. Their album Extend is really good.

Here's one of the songs from that album:

I still want to hear the bug album and then I could probably give you some reccos.

I got you covered.

Even just one listen tells me:

Collie Buddz
Seeed
Kode 9 & The Spaceape
Benga - Newstep

That Milanese track is kicking. i'm going to get hold of that now.

it's good, any album featuring this man is more than welcome.. it's all about Saxon soundsystem loitering awkwardly in the background...

I'm halfway though it now, not feeling it. Maybe i'm being hard to please but it's just striking me as very unremarkable right now...

I know where you are coming from. It is certainly listenable but it did'nt blow my socks off like I had hoped.

It's something about he basslines that hits the spot. I think it does take a few listens to get your head around it.

Thanks for recomendations, going to try and get hold of them now.

I will say there's something about the production on the album that I'm not a fan of, it's a little flat. I find myself constantly fiddling with the EQ when I listen to it.

The Bug has infested, multiplied and laid my brain to waste. Poision Dart is a killer selection.

Some of London Zoo reminds me of stuff on Adrian Sherwood's Becoming a Cliche/Dub Cliche collection of radical dub music.

If you like trippy dance music check out The Sound of Future Russia, a collection of music from the underground club scene in the Moscow/St. Petersburg.

Fela's music has afro-funk riddims with the heavily stacked drums sound is similar.

Asian Dub Foundation has a similar Bombay trip hop sound. The Bug's sample on Poison Dart sounds very close to the Asian Dub Foundation's Riddim I Like.

M.I.A.'s frenetic raps resemble the deconstructed primativism the Bug's rappers.

The Bug has such an extensive matrix of musical influences it's hard to describe to anyone who hasn't heard them.

Try Transglobal Underground too. Their sound is suitably genre hopping. Good Call on Fela Kuti. Love that guy's music. 20 albums down about another 40 to go lol

This thread has been dead for 6 years? Shiiiit, I just picked up "London Zoo" and will pick up "Angels & Devils" next. Apparently Death Grips is featured? How odd, but regardless, I really, really like "London Zoo" a lot.

Kevin Martin collaborating with Death Grips isn't that surprising when you consider his collaborations with Justin Broadrick and Alec Empire. His back catalog is very diverse and worth checking out IMO—especially GOD, Techno Animal and Ice.
