It's reggae week, musicbanter's first ever theme week so let's celebrate all thin's reggae! :D

I don't actually know reggae very well, but with di help of i bredren Wikipedia, I will try fe gi the i all a brief introduction. Reggae was born as a musical pattan on Jamaica inna 1960s. It came from di genre rocksteady which was born out of ska which appeard inna 50s. Supposedly, Ska became very popular with the mods (moderninsts) scene in England durin' the 60s. Rude Boys liked turning down the speed of Ska records and dinki fe the slower wine from which came rocksteady. Turning down the speed even more gave the sounds which became reggae.

By early 1968, records which are regarded as true reggae (not transitional forms) started appearing. Larry Marshall's Nanny Goat and De Beltones' No More Heartaches were released dis ya year. De most recognized reggae massiVe is of course The Wailers which was started by Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and Bunny Wailers. They startet up in 1963 and their sound evolved through the transitions from ska fe reggae. Some other pioneers are Prince Buster, Desmond Dekker and Jackie Mittoo!

So, dis ya week is reggae week! Hopefully the i guys will feel inspired to check out some reggae dub and perhaps review/write a bit about reggae in your journals, those of you who have them. I hope dose who have knowledge of de genre, likely more dan I have, will share it yahso and perhaps even post some anecdotes if they know them.

Reggae is a genre I've always loved, from the innocent days of my youth singing along to "Three Little Birds" on the radio, to now where I can appreciate the basswork to no end.

Thread which will encourage casual reggae listeners to write a mini-review if they either don't have the knowledge or the time for a full journal entry.

I think I wanna try and review a reggae album for my journal as well perhaps. Darwin knows, I've been a bit lazy with it the last few months .. However, I'm such a reggae newb. I have to find an album I like first because as of yet, there are none. I know reggae songs, but I never sat down with an album. But that's what weekly themes are for. ;)

Hopefully I'll get those 3 done tomorrow.
