why the sudden change

so its been years and years ive seen somany differences especially in what "people are into"
i grew up with punk, ska basically everything that i listen to STILL
and out of nowhere poseurs are growing and trying to take over like roaches...why the sudden change???
people would talk **** 'cause i dressed and listened to something totally different that was considered "weird" and then what 2 years after we meet again and CLAIM they always been into that kind of music and wear what i wear.i mean NO,IM NOT the one that started it but why DO those people CLAIM they'll always been into it and TRY TO OWN IT AS IF THEYRE THE ONLY ONES THAT STARTED IT,CAN LISTEN TO THE MUSIC AND DRESS THE WAY THEY DO??am i the only one that has seen this??? that is tired of this happening???
JUST YESTERDAY my friend and i almost got in a fight 'cause this chick that was into pop brittney spears(i dont know if thats how you spell it)well she was into pop since i met her,we never got along then she was into metal and NOW SHES ALL "NEW WAVE,PUNK,SKA" AND SHE BARELY STARTED DRESSING LIKE THAT AND SHE CLAIMS THAT MY FRIEND IS JOCKING HER STYLE WHEN WE ALL KNOW MY FRIEND HAS ALWAYS DRESSED THE WAY SHE HAS...ITS IDIOTIC.
im tired of it but im not saying "you cant dress like me i started that" I KNOW WHAT IM INTO AND I DRESS HOW I DRESS PEOPLE CAN DRESS LIKE ME I DONT GIVE TWO ****S,YOU KNOW?? ALL IM TRYING TO SAY
YOURE NOT THE FIRST ONE TO START IT SO WHY TRY TO MAKE STUPID LITTLE FIGHTS OVER IT,GET OVER YOURSELF
!!:usehead:

Maintain your individuality by stepping back and not giving a damn.

that's the best theory.

Exactly.
These people have always existed and they always will...
But you gotta be some optimistic: As you might have already recognized: Punk/Alternative seems to be the "newest" and "hottest" trend.
As soon as this is over, these people will be gone as well...

Green Day is my favorite band since dookie which is when i was a little tyke and they still are. I know they are all now with the Punk trend of today but I still like them Does that make me a poser?

I have to agree with UH - if your main concern is that somebody is copping your look then you just need to grow up. Years and years - hold old are you? - 14?
Look at it this way - when the masses embrace something, those of us who were always there benefit from the exposure. The bands and the whole scene benefit as well with more money and attention in the mix. When this happens then maybe some of the deserving bands can actually make a living doing what they love.

cherrysue 09-29-2005 12:15 AM

the generation before you felt the same way about you, and the generation before them felt the same way, and so forth and so forth. Everybody starts somewhere and is given slack untill they are respected by the scene. what it takes to get the respect is differant in almost every case. When i was 15 (almost 14 years ago!) and got into the scene i felt like the older guys that were already established in the scene were like "who the hell is this kid, and where does he get off trying to be punk?" i dont think there is really a way around it unless your sid vicious's long lost offspring, even then youll probably get slack at first. my point is, these kids who you are complaining about how they were into pop one second and now trying to be punk may very well turn out to be the next life-long punk rock activist/protesters and could be important members of the punk rock community. my suggestion is to not judge them by their sudden change of character, instead welcome them and try and point them in the right direction. Its all about Unity, not a private members only club.

Sophisattic 09-29-2005 12:28 PM

Well said.

The people who are so concerned about their image being replicated are normally inspired to be that way by some other source anyway. It should be a privaledge to be part of the inspiration.

Captain Blizzard 09-30-2005 03:04 AM

if u copy an image then u have no self control ur just a brain dead F***. People who dess the same and then say there all diffrent (usely metal donkey's who like the old Slipknot,Cradle of filth Death by tea time all the same crap) people are diffrent because they are diffrent and don't need 2 try u can tell if someone is being themselves or just copying the coolest trend e.g Greenday

HollywoodPeace 10-03-2005 08:45 PM

It's just a fashion trend, it's become big and now all the "cool kids" are doing it, nothing you can do about that. Trends will be trends. We live in a generation where books are most definately judged by their covers, and people wanna fit in.
