lol the question was 'who is better, biggie or 2pac' so i voted. now if you want to call biggie's music gimmicky, that's your own perrogative but i think it'll be met with loads of resistance. biggie pioneered hip hop that perfected the hook, in a genre that specializes in doing just that. when you're talking about rock and alternative, no, i don't care for hooks and gimmicks such as those employed by bands such as arctic monkeys, hot hot heat, or fallout boy for instance.

and my avatar is the famous cover of jeff buckley's 'grace' (and if u weren't such an ignorant little trendy yank **** you'd know that) which i think is slightly more mature than a shirtless self portrait of me attempting to hit a pipe in a futile effort to show the world how carefree and hip i am.

i wasnt advertising, it is a picture of me at coachella... a music festival i had gone to about a month before i joined the site so it was the most recent picture i had of myself so i thought i would put it on there.

btw who is that picture in your avatar? is it an artist you enjoy? you know all of us enjoy artist, but not all of us need to advertise, but thats cool man, real cool.

If it wasn't for the half decent music debate in the argument you two seem to be having, I'd say you were both heading the right way for a warning apiece.
Keep it civil please.

They speak with the same accent they talk in. They're from England and have no need to "grab trendy-ass north american bohemian wannabes' attention", I'm sure they sold a lot more albums in England than they did in the U.S...

wow, profound statement right there. 'they speak with the same accent they talk in' he says. speaking and talking, the same thing? who would have known! great insight man.

have you read the thread? we know that they've sold more in the UK and are more popular there, and that's fine, my argument is that i have no doubt in my mind that countless north american listeners are in love with their englishness and gimmicky style. i have nothing against english artists, my extended family is from britain and i am a huge fan of the country and its music. but having heard numerous frat boys and trendy girls blab on about how great the band is, what else am I to assume? they have wonderful instincts when it comes to music? no, they, like many others, are into clever lyrics with thick accents and radio friendly tunes.but that's fine, just isn't for me. cheers

I'm pretty sure he meant to say "they sing with the same accent they talk in." Please stop being an ass.

Just because this lyric seems relevant to the current topic :

Yeah but his bird thinks it's amazing, though
So all that's left
Is the proof that love's not only blind but deaf

How can you more beautifully (or should I say, gimmicky) say "Your woman is ugly and your music sucks. Your a phony son of a bitch singing with a false accent" ?

My apologies, sometimes I'm quite dyslexic. I meant "sing" naturally....

Also, I thought from this:

that you were arguing that they intentionally played up their accents to appeal to the "north American trendy bla bla bla" crowd...my mistake...;)

As you end up saying, this type of music is not for you, so I really don't understand why you have a problem with other people liking it. It's really obnoxious to claim your own music taste is better than everybody else's, a concept I too failed to grasp for a long time.

I don't think the accents are 'played up' at all; as adidasss said, they speak as they sing. It would be quite tiresome to put on an accent for each interview to match up with the singing.

Playing up English accents really got The Jam selling millions in America.

Oh wait.... I'll try that again

Playing up English accents really got The Happy Monday selling millions in America.

Hmmm Nope , bear with me here...

Playing up English accents really got Blur selling millions in America.

Still can't figure this out , i'll try one last time

Playing up English accents really got The Libertines selling millions in America.

Sod it I give up

This is really an infantile reply. You don't seem to understand or grasp the nature of the last few posts. People will always jump on the bandwagon, but it is not a gimmick. I think it would be virtually impossible to do a gig while pretending to do a false accenct. A few bands over here are proud to be British and are playing the music they want without resorting to a mid atlantic twang and losing their identity.
