They both had there ups and downs but I'll take the best Metallica over Maiden. The thing about Maiden albums is there's always a vocal performance that turns my stomach. Also, I don't want to take all credit away from Maiden, but I believe it was Rainbow from 76-78' that created Power Metal.

I'll choose Metallica as well, but only the old stuff.

Master of Puppets, One, and Enter The Sandman are some of my favorites.

Iron Maiden is good too, but idk I like Metallica more. Aces High is a good song though :P

Iron Maiden was a better band musically. How many hardcore bands do you hear now that have the double guitar riffing which was made popular by Maiden. Matter of Life and death is way better then anything Metallica has done recently.

So I would say Killers> Master of puppets. IMO.

I guess your first point just depends on your preference. I do have to admit that Nicko is fantastic and his sound in Where eagles dare is INSANELY GREAT. I only picked Lars by a hair because of his sound during Live/concert sets was too powerful to ignore.

In the case of the bass, I really have to disagree with you. Not only is Harris better than Trujillo, I would label Harris as the best bass player EVER in any musical style. Why? Lets see, he has the most unique way of playing the bass (just hear phantom of the opera) and he makes it sound great. He is the one member of maiden that is irreplaceable. More importantly, ALL, as in EVERY SINGLE ONE, of his basslines is great. There is not one song in the entire history of maiden's career that you can say "the bass sucks." There were occassions, specially during the brief retirement of Bruce, that some of the other members sucked but that can't be said about Harris. If you play bass and tried to play maiden songs specifically focusing on Harris' unique techniques, you would understand truly how great he is. I'm not saying that Trujillo is a bad bassist, in fact he is a good one, its just that its hard for me to pick him above harris when all of metallica's songs now suck, his technique (not how good he is mind you, his technique) is pretty ordinary, and he doesn't dominate their songs. Ofcourse, this is just my opinion but you have to understand that Harris is a legend among bass players that are into metal. Just to get an idea of how complex it is to play Harris's bass lines, take a look at this link of somepeople who are as close to Harris as possible:

hey man metallica is quite a definate favourite, orignally, Iron Maiden is too a fav but i was introduced to them through metallica....i think they are both quite decent bands both quite talented and widely loved, but maybe iron maiden is a better band regardless of how i feel because i don't here as many people say they hate iron maiden then they do metallica....

You've got to remember that Trujillo hasn't written anything for Metallica yet (Bob Rock wrote St Anger's basslines). Trujillo was outstanding in Infectious Grooves (funk) and also great in Ozzy Osbourne's lineup (metal). He also played for Suicidal Tendencies (punk) and Jerry Cantrell. He's a very well rounded player.

I think you're underestimating my love for Steve Harris. Maiden is one of my favourite bands and I agree that Harris is a legendary bassist. His two finger triplet technique and stamina is amazing. As the primary songwriter for Maiden he does a brilliant job... his basslines are top quality, yet they don't intrude and dominate the songs too much. He knows when to play and when not to play.

But I still only just prefer Trujillo who is a more diverse bassist than Harris. They're both in my favourite bassists list and I've learned basslines by both.
