Chamber Rock is TECHNICALLY different than Symphonic rock, but very similar. Much closer to the classical than it is to rock.

Chamber Rock is generally simpler song structures than progressive/derivatives.

Symphonic rock is basically incorporating the use of a symphonic orchestra.

The 70s band "Kansas" is very close to these very labels but Art Rock would be a better description of their music.

I would call Kansas either prog rock or pomp rock in the 1970s and not art rock, when I think of art rock in the 1970s I think of say Lou Reed and Patti Smith and then incorportaing some of the more creative new-wave acts such as Talking Heads and artists like Kate Bush.

I see Kansas as too steeped in prog and traditional music to classify them as art-rock, I basically see art rock as a continuation of the experimental rock bands of the 1960s but as being more focused and the music being more accessible.

I personally just consider Kansas as a progressive rock band myself too.

But even still, they have certain singles I would personally classify as being art rock. I don't think we should disregard the notion of art rock completely.

Therion is really the only band I listen to that could be called "symphonic". By the time they released "Theli" that had transformed themselves from a grinding progressive death-metal band, to one that added classical and folk elements with operatic vocals. They have quite an extensive and high quality discography that calibrates back and forth between all of these influences. "Secrets of the Ruins" and 'Sirius B" would be the ones I'd classify as most "symphonic". On record and out of sight, Therion is a near perfect combination of metal and classical elements, but their live performances, are pure 100% cheese.

You are always a gentleman of the utmost character tore (seriously though).

What mostly hinders "me" concerning progressive rock and its sub-genres is I am familiar with mainstream/popular bands only.

Seems like this thread is dead in the water, but when I think of symphonic rock or metal, Rhapsody of Fire first comes to mind. They are without question cheesy, but unconditionally catchy at the same time. One of my guilty pleasures.
