(personally I think the River Gods wanted a court singer)

Hey, what about Tim Buckley, Jeff's dad? A thoroughly excellent voice himself too . . .

Not much mention of female vocalists, except for Stevie Nicks, who has to get my vote too, as 'Rumours' was compulsory listening throughout my teenage years.

To redress the balance a little, I also rate:

Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins)
Annie Lennox (Eurythmics)
Aretha Franklin
Kate Bush
Billie Holiday
Björk

With apologies for what might be a contentiously high 'banshee' factor.

TY addiction!
Respect to JB - We've lost several great artists before their time, but I think Jeff B possibly represents the biggest single tragic loss of potential.

Dude's voice has literally made me CRY when I've been feeling a little bit emotional, putting him on a VERY short list of artists in my book (and damn few male voices have ever come close to that)

Can barely listen to his version of Cohen's 'Hallelujah' without the hair going up on the back of my neck and a lump forming in my throat.

Gawd, can hardly believe to confessing that here - bound to get some schtick now . . . ah, what the hell, I'm also a big Foetus fan, so let it rain . . . =o]

i know what a loss......he would of gone on to be one of the greats...
his songs are so beautiful and so full of emotion im listening to 'lost highway' by him right now....he did everything so purely, very raw.
what are your fave songs by or covered by him? i like Nina Simones 'Lilac Wine'.....errrm 'Dream brother', 'satisfied mind' 'forget her' the list goes on and on...

I have trouble answering this.. i just had a conversation about this very thing a few weeks ago with a friend of mine..
i personally don't know who to go with.. between..
----------------------------------------------------
-Roger Waters
-Alx Rose
-Robert Plant

-------------------

-Rob Halford
-John Bonjovi
-Ozzy
-Maynard

and thats my list.. there is no one to choose.. impossible.. two many great voices out there
-----------------------------------------------------------------
i think all of those men have such amazing voices...
its insane really.. to hard of a thing to answer.. but there are way more lead singers out there that are nuts.but those have to be by far the best in my books anyways
