First couple of albums had a raw southern garage rock sound, that's a very appealing sound. Back then they were everyone's pocket bands. Certainly mine around 2004, no one knew them. Now all them people like Sex On Fire.. But I can see why early KOL were critically acclaimed even though because of their last album I can't stand them.

Hands down Brokencyde is the worst thing that has happened to music. You do not, I repeat, do not, mix rap with emo. As if emo wasn't already bad enough, they are planning to ruin rap even more as well?

Other candidates:
Tokio Hotel, Paramore, Kings of Leon, Paramore, The Misfits, Paramore and of course the obligatory Nickelback mention.

It's funny, from your posts I get a hint of distain towards Paramore...

Youth and Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak are both pretty good albums. Anything after that, then yeah, it was pretty mundane.

I'll give agreements to Enter Shikari - that was precious minutes of my life that I'll never get back. And the Script almost make me start twitching with anoyance. Ugh, and seeing as it's on my flatmate's radio right now, The Feeling.

This thread annoys me, and it seems to me most people are putting down some bands simply because it's cool to hate them. I mean, I don't hate many bands at all. Most of them are listenable. I can listen to Nickelback - I don't think they're very good but I don't writhe in pain when they are played. I also love Blink-182, who are getting a lot of hate on this thread, and I also like Green Day. Generic does not equal bad, nor does popular.

I actually agree with you a bit.

Except that. They really do suck.

No but they're usually the main one or two aspects as to why they are bad.

Maybe not always but it does often equal bland.

OctaneHugo 06-21-2010 12:58 PM

Popularity and genericness doesn't make a band bad, but like said it's often the main reason. There are plenty of ordinary sounding bands that are great.

Also, Paramore's debut album is listenable. Sort of. The first couple songs and the last few are OK, but the middle's pretty trash. But I haven't listened to it since 2008, so yeah.

TheCunningStunt 06-21-2010 01:07 PM

Generic means bland, middle of the road, dull. Which can be quite easily make for bad listening.

Violent & Funky 06-21-2010 01:36 PM

They are REALLY good at being bland though...

OctaneHugo 06-21-2010 01:56 PM

Generic means common.

Common, general, bland, dull. All pissing in the same pot.

Common doesn't mean bland or dull.
It means common.
Commonplace.

Common and generic tends to have a bland and dull sound. Middle of the road and nothing out the ordinary.

Yeah, I'm with you. I love Megadeth...they ended up way better than Metallica. Dave's voice actually annoys me less than James's.

One thing I have to say, though...Dave needs to get the **** over being kicked out of Metallica. If I ever saw him and he started being all mopey about it, I would kick him square in the nuts.

Its kind of sad how after 20 years he`s still moping about it, the reason that I always preferred Megadeth to Metallica is the edginess and speed of their early sound culminating to perfection on "Rust in Peace"

I have to admit though, a lot of their mid to late 90`s material does suck. It wasn`t until 2004`s "The System has Failed" That the group delivered another great album.

Megadeth absolutely destroyed Metallica at Sonisphere. Far better live. Metallica hit a fair few bum notes live.

AleG 06-23-2010 08:05 PM

Pyromaniac. 77 listens on Last.fm in 6 months. I don't blame people for not listening to the band...

Raust 06-23-2010 09:00 PM

  1. Hinder
  2. Nickleback
  3. Insane Clown Posse
These are the 3 worst "artists" IMO

boo boo 06-24-2010 12:01 AM

Megadeth are damn good. I still think Metallica were better in their prime (with Burton) but whatev.

Pantera are still my thrash metal band of choice. Forgive me I'm southern. :(

Pantera far more groove metal than thrash metal and I`m southern too but UK southern.

You Me At Six, and their fans are utter c*nts.

Just got into an argument with one, at the end of it all she admitted what she listened to was crap but it's crap she likes. I was content with that, then some other twat piped up about how everyone has the right to their opinion and why do I have the right to insult someone for their music taste.

They're emo scene kids FFS. How do you not have the right to insult them? Idiots.

/rant.

It's SO frustrating. I got her to admit her music taste was crap, yay. Job done.

It's the other bint that piped up that annoyed me. If every musical argument was like this..

"The Beatles are crap, how can you like them."

"Well, that's my opinion. Opinion can't be right or wrong. Why do you think your opinion is superior to mine?"

Music forums like this wouldn't exist. Having a difference of opinion and being able to express them in other ways other than copping out with the "whole my opinion can't be wrong" malarke :thumb:

I'm thankful I have this place, because people of the general public seem to be fucking retarded.

FashionistState 07-06-2010 04:20 PM

I suppose The Birthday Massacre counts as rock, and I sure don't like them. D:
All of the band members are walking clichés, and they don't even acknowledge it.
Their song's intros always sound great. Then they start some hackneyed or boring melodies and you feel cheated. =/

That shouldn't really matter. A lot of great mucisians are total cliches. They satirize goth culture in a lot of their songs too. Whether they do it well or not is debatable....
