Although I love them all and my list changes alot. I think Ire Works is overall my favourite though, it was the first one I heard and it got me into DEP.

Yours is exactly the same as mine. Ire Works was also the first DEP album I listened to.

I had pretty much forgotten why I ever liked this band then I saw this video on TV last night and immediately remembered. If you're not into their new shit, reminisce with me.

The Mullet Burden from their "Under the Running Board" EP

khfreek 12-23-2010 01:08 PM

I have to admit, that is heavy as all hell compared to their last few albums.

Well you can still reminisce with me even if you like the new shit. It's not that I don't get the appeal of their current stuff but at this point it's like the old and new DEP are two different bands.

Thank you for the recommendations Trauma, I will try to listen to them when I can, I have already heard "Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants" and I like it.

Idk, first impression is a fail band. I listened to them more and still didnt like them

Disagreed, the heavier stuff on their newer releases sounds pretty much the same to me as it did on their earlier ones. As I see it, the only difference between them now and then is a better vocalist, slicker production (good or bad depending on your taste), and experimentation with pop, electronica, and industrial music.

The first two EPs and Calculating Infinity are still awesome, but I don't think I'll ever like them as much as the new albums... the new albums have a much broader scope.

Those are all the reasons they sound so different to me.

Again, I'm not really saying they're bad now. I just liked them better before. And I've got a huge preference for Minakakis's vocals.

Alfred 12-28-2010 05:42 PM

Meh, I find that Minakakis' screams were so monotoned. Greg's got a more powerful scream I think, plus he's an excellent singer.

Speaking of the band's early work, what do you guys think of the debut EP? I'd say it's better than Under The Running Board, even if it isn't as heavy. It's got a pretty interesting sound, and probably the coolest artwork of any of their releases.
