Personally, I think Dimebag is great at both. He has some awesome rhythm work, but some great solos too. His solo in Floods is possibly one of my favourite solos ever.

Besides. guitar solos aren't really my thing, I can think of nothing more horrible than a couple of moronic metal heads wanking to a 5 minute guitar solo.

I assume the main reason is your obvious bias against Radiohead.

The guy was a f*cking student in theory, hes a classicly trained musician and multi instrumentalist, other than guitar he plays violin, piano, organ, xylophone, synthesizer, harmonica, glockenspiel and the ondes martenot...He may not be your Steve Vai type virtuoso, but in terms of technical ability, hes more worthy of the poll than half of the guys you chose to include.

Indeed, he has one of the most perfect guitar tones ever designed...Listen to his playing on Good Company, you hear the sounds of clarinets, trombones and saxophones, but its all guitar.

I voted for Zappa, on the basis that he had amazing compositional skills and was a largely underrated guitarist. In retrospect, Becker could've easily also recieved my vote because of his compositional skills being focused almost entirely into solo guitar pieces, whereas Zappa's skills involved other instruments as well.

Yeah, I agree with Becker. I didn't see him on the list first time. Its so sad that he can no longer play. Cacophony were really good.
