Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple), is the best, in my opinion.

You know, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not a big Clapton fan. In fact, I would go so far as to call Clapton overrated. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guitar player, but his best stuff was with Cream and "Layla". Honestly, what really turned me off from Clapton was his cover of "I Shot The Sheriff". He butchered that tune.

Each to their own, i personally think he's fantastic, but in all honesty i'm too tired to come up with a very strong arguement for my cause.

i'm not a big clapton fan either. would have liked to see him live in his "cream" days. i've just had a listen to his "best of" album that i have. and in my opinion it's pretty weak (other than the "cream" era songs and a few gems). maybe it comes across better live though (and then i'd have a different opinion).
