Weird vocals, Claudio Sanchez has a very odd voice. I admire the sheer craziness and intricacy of their albums though- i've never seen "concept album" taken to this extent:

I love them so much, as long as we stop at In Keeping, can't say that I care much for No World For Tomorrow, and From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness was extremely hit or miss.

I only literally own two of their albums. I should probably buy some more.

Either general rock or progressive.

Anyway... I started listening to them with The Second Stage Turbine Blade. I loved it, it was like nothing I'd ever heard. And I was really impressed with each album that came out after, like each improved on the last. Until No World for Tomorrow, which I thought was a step back. I guess it just didn't offer anything I hadn't heard before, and maybe I was just outgrowing them. Because after a few listens the material fit fine in their discography...I just didn't have the urge to play it as much as I had with their other 3 albums.

So now I hardly listen to them. Claudio's vocals are definitely not for everyone, but for some reason I never had a problem with them. But since I've disconnected from the band over the past few years, it's a bit hard connecting with them again. I feel like I'm new to them and I'm not sure about them now. I think it's also that since that time I discovered them and The Mars Volta (around 2003), I've gotten into a massive amount of 70s progressive rock. So in comparison, this just sounds like pop now. I mean not really, but kind of like pop punk in comparison to Dead Kennedys or something.

I just bought "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" a few months ago.

I started with "Good Apollo." The album will always be close to my heart.

Claudio's vocals are unique. During some songs, they can get fairly obnoxious. But his voice isn't really that high all of the time. During live performances, he often has to switch octaves to a lower one.
