If Black Sabbath are metal, i don't see why Led Zeppelin can't be, or Blue Cheer for that matter.

boo boo this lost its point, some people just enjoy fighting. There's no winning. Not that winning ever mattered to begin with. Night night all.

Hardcore = Punk

Just please don't comment on music you can't comprehend and don't listen to, thanks.

Well lets assume those bands were not metal bands.

In 1979/80 you had the NEW wave of British Heavy Metal. Which gave you the likes of Iron Maiden , Saxon , Venom , Samson , Preying Mantis etc etc.

So with that , there must have been an old wave of metal in the 70s.

So who were those bands then? Anyone who think the likes of Sabbath , Purple & Zeppelin were not metal bands want to name me 10 metal bands from the 70s?

Hit the nail right on the head Urban, right on the head, that's something metalheads forget.

I'd say proto metal (or old metal) bands would include.

Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
King Crimson
Blue Cheer
Queen
AC/DC
Blue Oyster Cult
Uriah Heep
Hawkwind
Aerosmith
UFO
Jethro Tull
Thin Lizzy
KISS
Rush

All have had some kind of significant influence on heavy metal in both it's early development and following the 70s.

I grew up living next door to a guy who was a hells angel who loved metal in the 70s.

You`ve basically listed his record collection
