Which decade has the better music? (dance, metal, pop, rock)

With that kind of backwards logic music was best thousands of years ago because that's how we got where we are.

It isn't backwards logic; it may be incomplete logic, but backwards, no. What I mean is that in the 60s there was a distinct shift away from the formulaic musical styles and genres that had been so pervasive through the ages. (Think Hendrix) After that, many bands adopted a more free-flowing expressionistic style that could surprise the listener and take you to new places for a completely different kind of sensory experience. It is my feeling that after the 60s, music became much more exciting.

Although It could just be the case that the only music that's managed to last from earlier decades is the good stuff; they had their own fair share of crap, it just got rolled over and forgotten. And so it SEEMS like they had better music all round. I think that there Is a load of good music these days. it's just hard to find cause there's so much crap as well. but hey, I'm a 90's kid. i wasn't around in an earlier decade, so I am most likely completely wrong.

For Metal, the present has better music. For Rock, The 70's and 80's have the best.

I agree with foxyroxy, the musical revolution in the 60's influenced loads of bands, modern ones included.

Influenciality doesn't do much for actual better music, infact his own logic kind of ruins it. "It is my feeling that after the 60s, music became much more exciting."

good stuff has come out of every decade, so has bad. to say that any decade is in every way better music wise than any other is trying to compare psychadelic 80's dance pop synth to 90's grunge etc. and the earlier greats of Hendrix and The King. it just doesn't work, really.
