What's up with no one loving Souls at Zero? That is one of the most epic albums I've ever heard. With such great atmosphere and songwriting. Scott Kelly is a genius btw.
The best post-metal band there is, that's not to say others aren't great. But Neurosis takes you on a mind blowing trip through space, as your brain oozes out your ears. Souls at Zero is godly, Enemy of the Sun, Through Silver in Blood, and Times of Grace own.

What's the consensus on the work did Scott Kelly did with Shrinebuilder? Worth a listen or no?

Definitley yes. Awesome doom, with Scott's heavy riffing and Wino's cool vocals.
Scott has some solo folky stuff too. Gloomy and dark and atmospheric. Just him and an acoustic.

I think Neurosis are one of the best metal bands to have ever existed and "Souls at Zero" is a great album, but their very best two have to be "The Eye of Every Storm" and "Through Silver in Blood". "Through Silver in Blood" has to rank as one of the best metal albums ever recorded!

HEllo Neurosis fans, i'm not familiar with their music, but i like Scott Kelly's vocal work with Mastodon. Is it a stretch from Mastodon to this group for someone more used to classic metal? What's a good starting point if i want to get into them?

You may want to skip their first two albums unless you like the hardcore/crossover thrash styles. Things start to get really moving on the "Souls at Zero" album with its Wicker Man inspired cover! This is the start of post-metal with a heavy sludge influence at its best. Instead of picking out individual albums I`d listen to all the albums in order from "Souls at Zero" as they`re all great albums.

As for how they sound, a heavy atmospheric metal that basically sounds like a thinking mans Slayer at times

I can't say I agree with the Slayer comparison at all since I think the two bands have virtually nothing in common. I'd definitely say Neurosis has more in common with Swans' heavier stuff than anything else I can think of though.

Some of the Neurosis singing actually sounds very similiar to Tom Araya at times.

Not on anything I own by them. Though Through Silver in Blood is earliest album I have so maybe he sounded more like him on the albums that came before it.
