The Mars Volta- Amputechture
The Who- Tommy The Who- Quadrophenia |
Amputechture isnt a Concept album. Its the first LP from The Mars Volta that wasnt.
|
I believe it is. All of the songs are based around a central theme.
|
Not all of the songs. There are a few songs where the titles refer to some religion. The album is not a concept.
|

|
Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare
Pink Floyd - The Wall King Diamond - Abigail Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime Styx - Paradise Theatre |
^Oh, I didnt even THINK about Alice Cooper.
I believe "Welcome to my Nightmare" is on of the best concept albums ever. I saw him live and he did his whole show, including the guilotine and everything and it was AMAZING. |
The Pretty Things - SF Sorrow
Generally considered to be the first ever rock concept album , even pre dating Tommy. I like it quite a lot but i`ve not got a f*cking clue what it`s supposed to be about. |

I like bands that have concepts running through a series of albums rather than every song being about the same thing,
Someone mentioned Alice Coopers Welcome To My Nightmare , the same concept also runs through his Dada & Last Temptation album. I think the Cure did it best with Pornography / Disintegration & Bloodflowers |
Husker Du - Zen Arcade
Crass - Penis Envy Pere Ubu - Dub Housing |
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
how could I friggin' have forgotten 2112?!?!???!!?!??!?!?!!?! |
WASP - The Crimson Idol
WASP - The Neon God (pt1 and 2) Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses |
Pink Floyd - Darkside of the Moon, The Wall.
Mastadon - Leviathan, Blood Mountain. Protest the Hero - Kezia (Even though they don't like it to be called a concept album but it tells a story so they can't avoid it.) The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute The Who - Tommy That's all I really care about so... |
Everyone posted some really good ones...I have to agree with the majority!
|
Mars Volta - De-Loused at the Comatorium

Hmm. There are quite a few great concept albums but I have to say that my personal favorite is probably The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails.
Frances the Mute is good too though as is El Cielo by Dredg. |
