No, and that very peculiar conclusion does not follow in any way from what I wrote.

It means that I don't say a band is bad (write them off) or that I don't *like* them, without hearing a vast amount of their material. What I would say, is that "I don't like what I've heard". Doesn't that make more sense than totally writing something off on the basis of just five or so songs, which is what is frequently done?

I think if you try, you can be a little more picky and anal. Honestly, its common sense if someone doesn't like a band their judging it on just what they've heard.

Alright, that makes sense - I should have restricted my argument to the case of somebody saying "band X isn't very good". In that case, surely you must agree that it's a pretty unfair thing to say on the grounds of simply a few songs? I think in order to cast THAT sort of judgment, seeming as it's an unrestricted statement, one should have heard a large amount of the relevant material. Otherwise it'd make more sense to say something more along the lines of "I don't think what I've heard is very good, though am open to the possibility that said band might have good material that I haven't heard". I don't see how that's being anal. Outright writing something off in an unrestricted fashion suggests knowing enough of the material to really be able to do that, does it not?

Because 5 songs of suckage with no good material found is not relevant.

Not sure exactly what you mean. Though if one puts their mind to it, simply thinking about bands they are already fond of, it's easy to come up with loads of possible ways by which one could end up with the wrong impression.

How absurd would it be to write off the Beatles as a poor band based simply off of hearing Love Me Do, Please Please Me, All My Loving, and I Saw Her Standing There?

this thread is painful to claw through, NIN are getting weaker by the album. Nothing on that last piece is holding up over time.

I've yet to hear an NIN album that I don't like. Only heard their main studio albums though.

They came to my city, from what I heard they were outshined by the opening band, TV on the Radio
