I like my power metal with as much cheese possible

Can someone recommend me something on the lines of Blind Guardian, Jag Panzer, Dwarven, or Fairyland? Many thanks in advance, my CD collection needs it.

Manowar are great!

I've heard all the bands listed so far. Demons & Wizards is on the right track. Something more fantasy-esque feeling like that. I want to feel like a 12th level Bard when I'm listening to it.

Inuzuka Skysword 02-22-2007 04:45 PM

I am surprised no one mentioned Rhapsody of Fire.

Muzak 02-22-2007 07:45 PM

I second on Rhapsody.

Dio, Helloween, Soul Source, Demoniac.

Melkor 02-23-2007 06:51 AM

Power ****in' Metal, yeah!!

I can give you a whole plethora of major PM bands, this genre is my speciality.

Heavy/Speed/Power Metal - Helloween, Gamma Ray, Grave Digger, Primal Fear, Iron Savior, Edguy, Hammerfall.

Thrashy Power Metal - Iced Earth, Brainstorm.

Progressive Power Metal (Non-Cheesy) - Symphony X, Kamelot, Angra, Evergrey.

Symphonic/Epic Power Metal (The Cheesiest) - Blind Guardian, Rhapsody (Of Fire), Nightwish, Thy Majestie.

Melodic Power Metal - Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica.

Extreme Power Metal - Children of Bodom, Dragonforce.

Honorable mentions: Manowar, Dragonland, Masterplan, Nevermore, etc....but I think this should do for now.

Wow, good thing he asked for a quick c&p from Wikipedia!

I'd reccomend Suidikara and The Lord Weird Slough Feg as far as power metal goes.

DearJenny 02-23-2007 08:33 AM

Not exactly. This is my favorite genre and a short list of some good, more-mainstream power/epic/symphonic metal. Fuck wikipedia. Of course, I dont know why I'm answering to someone who hasn't even been here for a month.

Because I'm right. If you look at the nands The Unfan has listed, they are not common Power Metal groups. So odds are, he's already heard the common type bands. You're reply was pointless. Wikipedia rules also.

Must suck to fail so much in one thread

Muzak 02-23-2007 10:36 AM

Wikipedia has Wolf listed as power metal. It fails at power metal.

The Unfan 02-23-2007 12:31 PM

I've never considered Suidakra to be power metal. They do have lovely folk elements however they just aren't power metal sounding. Earlier stuff is more like folked up blackened death or something like that, maybe even viking minus the lyrical content that pertains to viking mythos. Command To Charge was more of a folky numetalcore***g0r album.

Funny to note: My spell checker thinks mythos and folky aren't words but didn't pick up numetal***g0r.

My expertise is all mainstream. I dont have the time to exert effort into searching for little-known bands. I helped though. I bet the shit I listed is more available. Oh, and I checked the power metal list on Wikipedia and Leaves' Eyes isnt even listed. Point and Case. What I really did was ran through my windows media library and named everything in there. You caught me cheating by checking my music library. Good job.

There is nothing Power Metal about COB. COB are melodic death metal.

Sorry but I strongly disagree, leaving out 'Are You Dead Yet?' they fully embody the power metal sound with simply adding harsh vocals and some touches of melodic death metal here and there (songs like Sixpounder). Their use of guitar leads, the symphonic edges, dual synth and guitar solos, they have it all. Now talking about their new album, you would have something though they still have a few power metal quirks to that album.

New album has Mosh Parts. Horrendous effort.

and City's, you can edit Wikipedia. And my point stands, the bands he listed aren't mainstream so odds are he's heard them.

Unfan, I see your point, but they do have elements of it. And I saw Cellador tonight and was blown away. You might already know of them, but I'd give them a go. And Power Quest. Also awesome.

xoverkillx 02-26-2007 02:18 PM

Angra
At Vance
Avantasia
Bal-Sagoth
Blind Guardian
Brainstorm
Edguy
Gamma Ray
Heavenly
Iced Earth
Insania
Nocturnal Rites
Rhapsody
Symphony X

The Unfan 02-26-2007 03:07 PM

Bands I discovered I like but haven't been mentioned.

Thunderstone
Firewind
Kingdoms
Eternia
Atlantis
Gardenia
Savage Circus

Maybe stuff closer to that?

DearJenny 02-26-2007 09:52 PM

Could also try some Ayreon. And if the female vocals interest you, Draconian, Celestial Crown and Beseech.

Melkor 02-27-2007 06:43 AM

I love Ayreon, but they are Progressive Rock/Metal, not Power Metal. However, Into the Electric Castle and Universal Migrator I is highly recommended.

DearJenny 02-27-2007 12:03 PM

^Yeah. Just thought I'd throw him out there as well because they're THAT sweet. Another off-genre reccommendation, Strapping Young Lad.

The Unfan 02-27-2007 12:58 PM

Draconian aren't power metal either.

DearJenny 02-27-2007 01:04 PM

^Go ahead and ruin my day. to make it easy for myself I group all Symphonic, Epic, Viking, w/e metal into one big genre......sweetass metal.

The Unfan 02-29-2008 01:26 PM

Recommend me some power metal with as much cheese as possible?

Something I kind of have a love hate relationship with so I've not explored much is the cheesier side of power metal. Stuff in the realm of Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, The Ring, and maybe a bit of Axel Rudi Pell kind of stuff. Much appreciated.

jackhammer 02-29-2008 01:30 PM

Helloween. I hate them but they certainly fit the description! Also try Thor.

Inuzuka Skysword 02-29-2008 01:57 PM

Helloween is awesome...

The Unfan 02-29-2008 04:34 PM

Helloween are pretty good but seemingly inconsistant.

jackhammer 02-29-2008 05:02 PM

I hate them with a passion lol

Seltzer 02-29-2008 05:42 PM

I suppose Sonata Arctica can be fairly cheesy - listen to Letter to Dana and it'll probably give you a few laughs. I do like Winterheart's Guild though. I guess Sabaton is somewhat cheesy too.

But there is some other good power metal out there like Communic, Angra, Iced Earth, Hibria, Kamelot, Lost Horizon and Anubis Gate.

EDIT: Time to merge this thread.

Alfred 02-29-2008 05:50 PM

All this fantasy novel imagery. :O

Helloween is godly. If you don't like Helloween then quit power metal.

Helloween

Definately start with helloween If you want some good helloween songs listen to.

1. Keeper Of The Seven Keys (Epic)
2. I want Out
3. Halloween (Epic)

Then instead of rooting through a load of sonata arctica's ****, listen to the cage :) hope this will help

Carl Mcconnell 10-06-2010 03:56 AM

Shotgun Alley

IWP 10-06-2010 11:01 PM

Sonata Arctica is my ****! Twilightning is pretty good as well, only their first album though.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-07-2010 10:26 AM

He's not going to be back in a hurry.
