Slayer vs Kreator. Who ripped off whom?
I was listening to some Kreator songs the other day. Not only did the lead at times sound IDENTICAL to, almost indistinguishable from, Tom Araya, but the guitar soloing work was also near identical to Slayer.
The question then, is WHO ripped off WHOM blind? For those unfamiliar with Kreator's work, here's their myspace blog: www.myspace.com/officialkreator Listen to that first track. The band, by the way, have been around since the mid-80s. 1985 was their first record I believe. |
Hmmm, good question. I don't think they're THAT similar however. For one, the vocal style is very different. Raspy screams as opposed to "shouts".
Guitar work is also a meh. Depends on the era, early Kreator, sure, but then again, Slayer was influencing EVERYONE. Most of the Thrash band of the mid to late 80's took something from them. |
They both blatantly stole Venom's style.

Slayer's first album was in 1983
Kreator's first album was in 1985. |

Show No Mercy =/= Reign In Blood.
I think it's important to keep that in mind. |
Slayer first, but they borrowed a lot from VENOM-but they are sh{i}t. Bathory were sandwiched inbetween these bands, and they were'nt that great either. CELTIC FROST don't get much of a mention either. MORBID TALES (1984) was their first E.P. I really like them despite their (then) ridiculous image and subject matter.
Slayers discography pretty much p{i}sses all over KREATOR's. I do like Kreator's EXTREME AGGRESSION album though. Seen both live and no contest SLAYER hands down. |
I only have Kreator's "Endless Pain" and Slayer's "Reign in Blood." and neither of them sound like the other.
|
Slayer are similar to Venom in some respects, but I don't really like Venom and I adore Slayer so there you go.
|
I only have Venom's "Metal Black" album, but I've heard their older stuff is more raw and more... I guess, "out of control."
