I used to really dig these guys. I thought their first EP was so heavy.

aModernMyth 03-08-2009 04:44 AM

I really like their new sound over their older stuff. :)

IYT 04-13-2010 06:54 AM

this is a great band. Bands out of Epitaph ar really good. I was a little weary to get into them though by seeing how many of those scene kids had their shirts and Myspaces with I heart Olli.

Unrelenting 04-13-2010 10:11 AM

I liked maybe one song by them

Agreed, he is very talented but it seems he is writing more for the fans than himself.

IWP 04-14-2010 08:16 AM

Why should they quit now? They're making plenty of money off of douchey hardcore/scene kids who have no taste for good music, probably enough to quit their day jobs. Not to mention all the 15-17 year old girls that would probably do anything to be with them just because of their hair. Not to worry though, the whole metalcore/deathcore trend is going to hit rock bottom soon once the times change in say probably about another year or two.

calling it, grindcore is going to be the new "popular metal"

IYT 04-14-2010 08:35 AM

I hope not.

That would be a travesty. I'm hoping it becomes cool to like thrash and traditional heavy metal again. Both genres are making a comeback thanks to the good ol' mighty power of retro, so it could happen. However, if that happens, all of the mallgoth/scene douches are going to start liking it which would suck, though yet again so will girls which obviously isn't a bad thing.

there was a bit of a thrash revival. most of the new bands sucked hard, though

rhinorhino 04-16-2010 09:18 PM

lol anyone who likes bmth is lol

I wouldn't think so, Bonded By Blood, Mantic Ritual, and Warbringer (their first album was meh, but their last album is pretty good) are all pretty good, at least I think so, definently not as good as most of the classics though. Speaking of which, did you hear Heathen's new album yet? It blows 99.9% of today's metal out of the water in my opinion.

Shattered Dreams 04-17-2010 07:46 PM

Bring Me The Horizon was okay when they were heavier. Now they just suck with their light music. They were only a good album band, Oli sucks live.

Oli just sucks, period.

And he's a total douche bag.

IYT 04-19-2010 06:05 AM

His vocals are really good. He doesn't suck that bad.

IWP 04-19-2010 08:31 AM

Yeah if you're into screamo/emo type vocals.

IYT 04-19-2010 08:33 AM

Which I am.

IWP 04-19-2010 08:39 AM

I am sorry to hear that.

I'm into alot of different music. From thrash and traditional heavy metal to 70s and 80s rock/pop and new wave/synthpop to house, trance, and electronic dance, and even some 90s alternative. I just don't like screamo/hardcore music whatever you want to call it. All it's doing in my opinion is feeding off the cash of angsty teens and 16 year old girls who only like the band members for their hair and not for their music. Call me ignorant or whatever, but I find most of that music boring, repetative, and just down right annoying, even though some of it is kind of tolerable to an extent, not to mention that it's constantly being shoved down my throat by obnoxious scene kids. I'd rather listen to music that has melody and makes me feel good, or just music that gets my head nodding or headbanging depending on the style.

IYT 04-19-2010 09:51 AM

I agree that these 16 year olds go after them for their hair but why bash on people who don't, and actually listen to the music? Your pretty much saying everyone that listens to this music is either in an angst or likes hair. I am neither.

I'm not saying that everyone is, there's always exceptions. Perhaps it came across as if I was generalizing, and if so, I apologize. I'm just a little biased towards it, because it's constantly being shoved down my throat, along with fact that I had an ex who thought there was something wrong with me for not liking bands like Slipknot, Escape the Fate, and BMTH. However, one good thing about the music is that it's at least better than mainstream rap, but I guess we'll see who the true fans are once this style suffers the same fate that glam metal did in the 90s.

No I haven't, but I will be looking into it.

But yeah, newer thrash bands like fuelled by fire are ****ing awful

I've heard like one or two songs from them, and they were kinda meh, but not bad.

The thing about that is, even if they are good. It's still going to be re-hashed **** we've been hearing for the last 20 years.

Which is still far more interesting than the **** that's popular today, at least in my opinion.

May I ask where the hate for this band comes from? A lot of their music is better than a lot of other hardcore/screamo bands out there.

LOLPOCALYPSE 03-30-2012 12:34 PM

For the same reasons that Slipknot gains a lot of hate...unwarranted association with a slew of terrible bands (although I've never liked BMtH)

I suppose. But that shouldn't affect how good or bad the music is.

I generally despise most of BMTH's work but I'd say what brings them more hate than your average ****ty deathcore band is how active their singer is (can't remember his name at the moment) on the internet and such. From what I understand, he's played more to the teenybopper crowd as a heartthrob type character more than an extreme musician.

Norg 03-31-2012 02:18 AM

i acctually think this is one of the best new bands that has come around in recent years IMO i really like this band

Metal Connoisseur 03-31-2012 07:08 AM

If you enjoy the deathcore sound, I'd recommend War From a Harlot's Mouth or The Contortionist. Both of these bands do deathcore wayyyyy better than BMTH. And you won't be berated for saying you listen to those bands half as much as if you say you listen to BMTH :D

14232949 03-31-2012 07:25 AM

As I stood up for Coldplay, I'll stand up for BMTH.
Yes, there are a lot of **** metalcore bands out there, however BMTH aren't one of them.

They have a diversity in their music alike no other band in the genre, and say what you want about Oli Sykes as a person and the way he panders to scene kids, but you can't doubt the raw emotion he puts into his vocal work, he's a solid frontman in every aspect.

I feel it's fashionable to hate on Bring Me The Horizon, but there is no reason to neglect this band based on the bias of others.
Listen to their last album, There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven, Let's Keep It A Secret it's actually really good.

Here's a question for the sheep who follow Pitchfork Media and hipster music sites, if it became the in-thing to hate on your favourite band, would you follow that trend.
Say, if people started to say Captain Beefheart wasn't all that great, would you be inclined to believe it too?
No? Then, apply the same logic here.

I won't agree with you on the sound of BHTM, I find their chug-a-lug guitars and excessive breakdowns to be bland, and their singer to be generic in his rasps and post-hardcore shouts.

However, I DO agree with your assessment of Pitchfork and websites related to them. When douchey-indie elitist websites try and review metal it is truly pitiful.
