Black Sabbath Help?

Ok so I think its about time that I finally pick up some Black Sabbath .
Where should I start?
Should I pick up their first cd?
or start with the best?
Which one is the best?
I’m so lost and would appreciate some help. Cheers

Paranoid I'd imagine.

Gates_of_Iscariot 12-19-2007 09:02 PM

s/t
and sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-20-2007 10:11 AM

Just get the first 5 and consider it an investment.

jackhammer 12-20-2007 01:18 PM

MASTER OF REALITY is my favorite Ozzy era album. Vol4 has quite a muddy production. SBS probably the cleanest. Love early Sabbath.

I'm the total opposite. I think the production on Vol 4 suits it perfectly.
I hate the production on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath , far too sparse & tinny for my liking.

Lol. That's what makes music discussion the great subject it is. Vol 4 is a huge let down for me as it has some of their best tracks lost in a muddy malaise. I think MOR has the best guitar sound though. That chugging riff on INTO THE VOID pwns nearly every metal band!

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-20-2007 01:34 PM

Master of reality should be prescribed as a laxative.

15Steps 12-20-2007 05:20 PM

I Say start with their debut album then pick up Paranoid.

cardboard adolescent 12-20-2007 05:22 PM

I guess Paranoid first cause it's got the hits and then Master of Reality because it's the best.

You said it!

I hate all this non-love for Vol 4 :(

 but in a nice way

cardboard adolescent 12-20-2007 05:29 PM

Vol. 4 is good too, it just isn't the greatest stoner rock album ever.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-20-2007 05:29 PM

Thats why I like it though. Not as monotone as the other 3.

jackhammer 12-20-2007 05:39 PM

I do like the diversity on Sabotage too though. SYMPTOM of course is a great riff but MEGLOMANIA is a brilliantly realised track. There again i love AIR DANCE from NEVER SAY DIE so what do I know?!

I think Blues for the Red Sun is a mediocre album and I still haven't heard any Hawkwind.

I am having a hard time finding black sabbath's black sabbath for some reasons.
I really enjoy black sabbath and want all there cds I dont want to settle for buying a greatest hits cd
thanks for your help!

under 12-27-2007 06:10 PM

the cd's should really be non-expensive at used cd stores. i got paranoid and master of reality for like 15 bucks.

lucylamppost 12-27-2007 06:22 PM

great idea thanks!

under 12-27-2007 06:25 PM

some stores will have the deal like "buy 3 get one free" if you want, you could find a used cd stores that has something like that and get all the cds by Black Sabbath just like that. but theres a lot of ways to do it. its sometimes fun. lol. :o: thats my guilty pleasure heheehe

Gates_of_Iscariot 12-27-2007 06:26 PM

black sabbath st was the easiest for me to find wtf

under 12-27-2007 06:31 PM

god damn your avatar is making my computer lag like ****

lucylamppost 12-27-2007 06:31 PM

really? crap. I have been to 3 HMV's and one music world in the past 2 days and no luck.

jackhammer 12-27-2007 06:32 PM

Sorted ;)

under 12-27-2007 06:32 PM

hmm. well i would suggest going to a cd store that most likely isnt popular so they arent all gone.

or you could just get all the classic records and be cool. haha.

:)

whos_next 12-29-2007 04:24 PM

Don't neglect the Dio Sabbath. Pick up Heaven and Hell and The Mob Rules.

Falling Off The Edge Of The World is a monster track off MOB RULES.

Heaven and Hell is a rather good album.

SGR 06-06-2012 01:37 PM

What do you guys think of Dehumanizer?

Trollheart 06-06-2012 02:46 PM

Didn't like it. See my anniversary tribute to Dio in my journal (part 4, if you're actually interested, here http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ml#post1189604) --- found it overheavy even for Sabs, a bit directionless and really, in the end, a somewhat pointless exercise. I know they would get back together with Dio fifteen years later, but amid all his solo stuff that Sabbath reunion, at that time, didn't make sense to me, and "Dehumanizer" is a far cry from "Heaven and Hell" or "Mob rules".
