Silverstein?

Just curious.. what do think of them? They are more of a post-hardcore/emo group. They are one of my favorite bands.. Good song is Ides Of March..

Alfred 04-05-2008 10:01 AM

I used to think they were post-hardcore/emo too, until I came here and got educated.

They're not bad for a Hot Topic group.

Hah, yeah.. well, I like 'em.

Alfred 04-05-2008 10:08 AM

Yeah, nothing wrong with that. It's just some people here can get bitchy if you use the wrong genre. :)

Don't worry, though. I learned a lot about music from coming to this forum.

Example: Sum41 is not pop-punk. Crowquill gave me a lesson in that jazz.

:) Yeah, I get what ya mean. But, oh well if people get bitchy, don't bother me one bit.. :p:. I looked up Silverstein on Wikipedia and it said Post-hardcore/emo genre. So that's what I went by. Not saying Wikipedia is right all the time, 'cause all it is an open-source type thing.. so.. ya know, that can be wrong too. That's just what I went by.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 04-05-2008 02:39 PM

wikipedia is 100% wrong

i like you alfred

Silverstein is by far one of the most talented groups out right now. The voice is unique, the guitar is skilled insanely and they actually can scream.

Zer0 04-07-2008 07:03 AM

Omg people actually like them. I'm pretty sure there's another Silverstein thread here.

Thanks! Haha, I agree! They have good lyrics, their tone is just.. awesome, especially on their version of their song, "Ides of March". Dramatic lyrics, along with the good tone and like you said, very skilled guitar and screaming.

Then pretell what genre is Sum 41? just asking they're my favorite band :D

but didn't like all killer no filler

Alfred 11-29-2008 10:05 PM

Whoa, old thread.

Anyhow, I'd call Sum 41 a pop rock band, maybe hard rock, I dunno. We could just call them a rock band for all I care.

rosskey711 11-29-2008 10:15 PM

yeah i know old thread i'm new and just did a search for sum41 cuz the search thing won't let u search for sum 41 lol. They're definately not hard rock at all and you can't put pop near them cuz they were never remotely popular i would mostly just call them a rock band but i don't see what's wrong with labeling them as "punk rock." i doubt you really care but there's my 2 cents and they're even your fellow canadians!

Alfred 11-29-2008 10:16 PM

They were never remotely popular?

I beg to differ, "With Me" was probably the most overplayed song of this summer.

rosskey711 11-29-2008 10:21 PM

I saw that made it to TRL (never heard it anywhere but from my own computer) but one song i don't think gets u the label as pop.. fall out boy how many have they had ? that's a pop band

FaSho 12-06-2008 08:39 AM

Silverstien didn't impress me much except for a few songs. I used to be a Victory Records fanboy, and they were never as good as Aiden, Comeback Kid, or Hawthorne Heights.

Anyone ever seen the guy that auditioned for American Idol by singing a Silverstein song? I think this video mildly hilarious:

Haha, just a great response. Fine work.

Silverstein... don't mind 'em. GF sticks 'em on occasionally. They aren't anything original but can't really doubt their passion for what they do, so at least they're sincere.

That was great.

I'm seeing Silverstein at a festival soon but I've never heard much of them at all. Anyone know what they are like live?

Yes, that Shel Silverstein sure is great, with his "I'm Being Swallowed By a Boa Constrictor" song.

Oh, wait...
