I think what stops people from liking christian music is there's a horrible aesthetic to most of it where it's kind of watered-down and mediocre music in itself but the message is very prominent and delivered in an almost un-ignorable manner. This is why I can't stand some of Bob Dylan's religious stuff, I mean the music itself is some of his best but the overtly cheesy religious themes are undeniable and its bothering. But on the other hand some of the most beautiful lyrics borrow the bible's imagery like Hallelujah for instance.

Pentagrams are nothing to do with devil worship. It is an ancient pagan symbol. Most so-called 'satanic' bands are more interested in the power of nature and reject organised religion, such as christianity.

i don't think you'll find anyone to argue against music in modern society being about personal expression (although on this site there might be some who would just for spite). but your 2nd statement is bogus. it seems you're implying the purpose of music is to promote personal expression AND christianity and should not be separated. no one here has said religion couldn't be part of music, only that within modern contexts it usually sucks - A LOT. it's only really been the last century or two that music for the masses has truly become secular in an overwhelming fashion. but i really believe the switch from sacred to secular has far more to do with advancements in technology than anything else. i think crowquill nails it as far as why average people in today's society don't bother with religious music. it's lame formulaic dreck that fails to distract from the ham fisted sermonizing posturing as lyrics. |
You know, LeVayan Satanists don't actually worship Satan, its really more of a symbolism thing than a core spirtual belief system. Most of them don't believe in a deity of any form.
To them Satan is just a symbol of their rejection of Christianity and giving in to their earthly desires, or some crap like that. There are Thiest Satanists who actually do believe in and worship Satan however. But with the case of Metal bands I think they just use all this Satanic stuff to sell records, because you have a lot of kids who only listen to this crap to piss off their parents. |
Why don't people just shut up and listen to the music? Stop worrying about something that isn't even music. Plus, 99% of the time Christian bands don't even worry about the music. They just take secular sounding music and throw some really and Christian lyrics on it. I mean I am a Christian, but when I listen to their Christian rock it makes me want to go Satanic.

This is called shit in anybodys language regardless of the message.

Amen. Probably God is even displeased.

I see nothing wrong with Christian undertones, I'm a U2 fan after all. And of course Yes deal with religious themes all the time.
There is some very good Gospel music, thats where a lot of R&B and Soul greats got their start afterall, Elvis did some good Gospel stuff too. But theres no denying that just about all music marketed as "Christian Rock" or "Christian Pop" just plain sucks. |
Don't forget Bob Marley and lots more reggae, good stuff.
