I'm sure they had some right laughs, but they normally sound as bored as **** on record.

Why do you say so? Why shouldn't he criticize Jay-Z? Jay's a high profile celebrity.

Gallagher's not a genius, or anywhere near it. He's not even one of the "greats." On the other hand, Oasis isn't nearly as bad as people claim. Sure, they're hacks, but they're good hacks. Their lyrics are garbage and their riffs are mostly stolen...but if you want good lyrics, listen to Bob Dylan, and if you want original riffs, listen to the Beatles.

lol. No, I don't think you'd go to the Beatles if it's original riffs you're after... Sigh. It's a real pity that somebody could misunderstand the Beatles that much... They were not musical innovators - they were ingenious adapters and amazing melodists who could take any popular or underground style of the time and put it in a great pop format.

Aside from that, the Beatles weren't renowned for riff-driven music. Try the Kinks.

WaspStar 05-22-2008 12:08 PM

Err, good point.

Jay-Z writes some of the most uninspired rhymes I've ever heard in my whole life. How about that?

Like, honestly! You'd think it were MY fault that Jay-Z is just not a very good rapper. Strummer, dude, it's not my fault. Get over it already.

I'm sure it took no longer than it took you to conceive of the gem of a retort quoted above.

Your punctuation is pretty good, but you forgot one comma.

He is a genius to single handedly create a movement like britpop, play the largest concert in British history where 1 out of every 20 UK citizens tried to buy a ticket, create a question in parliment about them etc.
Also all that stuff about the first two albums then dross.
People who continue to say that should be shot.
It is like what sheep say with no thought.
Of course the initial blow will be greatest to get them up there and like the stones they make the odd gem but mainly play old favourites. You really only get 5 years in rock and then it is retro generally.
They like the Beatles and have beatle haircuts but sound nothing like them.
Their later albums had sunday morning call, let there be love, stop crying your eyes out, idle, etc.
But how can they sing a about stuff like a 20 year old over and over?
I hate when people go on about a bands early stuff like that. They have progressed well and still make a great song.
The genius was in Noels ability to see a way to alone make a whole generation in the UK mainly go mad for it and right- tracks 'aving it' from them and from a council estate to become the centre of the universe by planning it all by yourself with no help from anyone least of all his band and just his brother to help him is genius I'd say.
He didn't rip off stuff he showed how much he liked it and we all like how he for example took john lennons imagine to open don't look back as homage.
Oasis created a movement and attitude and Noel did that. An industry of lads in the 90's.
magazines, tv shows etc.
How many bands did that?
Even the Beatles dressed up and looked like packaged pop to fit in.
Most other bands join a movement even great bands like the Clash were messing with mott the hoophole till they went into punk. Oasis were a law onto themselves and for one scally kid to teach himself guitar, write anthems, get a whacking 40% record deal, snub the US and not play their game is genius and if you look back all the other bands copied them around that time in the UK.
What say you?

Sigh. He really got beaten with the ugly stick, though.

sweet_nothing 07-05-2008 10:10 PM

noel has never been a very good looking guy but ive always liked his haircuts

Burpgun 07-10-2008 08:47 PM

A dumb.

The Monkey 07-11-2008 04:42 AM

He's a real ******* in the press, but he wrote some alright music in the mid 90s. I wish he would experiment more with his songs instead of writing the same stuff over and over again. It got boring after Morning Glory.

If it's experimentation you're after, try a different band. The reason why Noel doesn't experiment is because he's not an experimental or creative musician. He's a hack writer. He isn't capable of anything of any value beyond what he does, so it's just as well that he doesn't try.

Not really , he just speaks him mind thats all.

I've seen him praise loads of bands in the media , yet people ignore that to concentrate on what he doesn't like. I know how he feels too.

And lets be honest. If you didn't cheer when he laid into turgid crap like Starsailor & Keane you have no right calling yourself a fan of music.

boo boo 07-11-2008 08:20 PM

He speaks his mind?

Speaking your mind dosen't automatically mean you deserve respect, Sean Hannity speaks his mind too.

He's an arrogant c*cky bastard, sure theres a lot of those in the music world, but I can overlook it if they have contributed to some great music.

As far as I'm concerned Oasis are the most average band ever and they make the most average music ever, so average that they should be the band that musical quality should be measured by.

I was thinking more about other things, like how he wished that Damon Albarn and Alex James would "catch AIDS and die".
