NO! Rolling Stone is one of the worst music mags there is. Me personally I enjoy the NME.

It looks like a British version of Rolling Stones IMO.

NME is one of the worst music mags that there are and a lot worse than Rolling Stone. They are merely designed to promote the latest new thing in British music, however shite or mediocre the rest of the critical world think it is. Their massive bias to English indie over American is sickening, and I don't care that they are a "UK magazine", who gives a damn? Real critics will give praise where praise is due and not just give it because it promotes your country's music scene. Idiots.

True. Apparantly the editor also say what albums should get a good review or not before it is even reviewed. They put their mark on a band saying they were the ones who got them where they are (Arctic Monkeys are an example), its a cunning money making plan. Too bad its not selling as much as it used to, probably because its essentially Smash Hits now.

My vote goes for internet.

Search around and I'm sure you'll get some stuff which you might like.
Beware though, every long thread either gets hijacked by Indie VS Prog. arguments(although indie wins due to numbers :p:) or how sucky *Insert band name here* are/were.
Just read the title, check them out on youtube/myspace/watever and then decide yourself :D

Also, get this-Last.fm
Install it, play some song of the bands you like and check out the 'similar artist' tag.
Most of the suggestions there are actually great.

Magazine wise, probably NME is one of the better ones for covering music. Rolling Stone is hit or miss.

There's no one or two definite magazines that cover music well any more.

Classic Rock is a good start, I like it. Maybe NME or Rolling Stone, MOJO is a little to pop influenced, although it is a good mag.

Uncut is amazing.

I really like Paste when I actually get out to buy magazines.

EDIT: Apparently no longer a print publication. :/

Shows how closely I pay attention to magazines anymore.

I usually get either Uncut or Mojo, they always have some good articles and reviews, some really good free CDs as well. I usually find it a lot easier and more enjoyable to read a magazine rather than stare at a screen reading some website like Drowned In Sound.
