1. Jimmy Page (he was the true frontman of Led Zeppelin)
2. Frank Zappa
3. Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys)
4. Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)
5. Jim Morrison (The Doors)

Very mainstream, but to be a good frontman you do need a larger than life image, a way with the media and to be iconic. imho anyways.

There's a differance between being a great frontman and making great music. Being a frontman entails a lot more then just singing and occasionaly strumming a guitar. They have to be the bands mascot. Take Chris Martin and Chad Kroeger for example. Yes, i think their music is terrible, but I respect both of them as a frontman for getting their bands music out there. I mean no one knows who the other members of Coldplay and Nickelback are, but they still listen to the music and it's because of the frontmen.
Going about it that way my list would be like this:

5.Chris Martin
4.Brandon Flowers
3.Paul Stanley
2.Morrisey
1.Dave Grohl

I'm not really a fan of three of those, but I respect them as frontmen in the sense that I stated.

ooh, someone can walk like a duck

Don't get me wrong, back in the 50's and 60's he was probably crazy for his time, but nowadays he just looks boring.

James Brown is a great frontman, I concur.

well he is the vocalist, but I don't think he can be described as a frontman.I've seen a couple of their live shows (u can actually find whole live shows of theirs on the internet and stream them through their site) and he is not your typical frontman. he just sits on a chair or stand still for most of the time, and he doesn't really interact with the crowd.

He puts more emotion into singing then anyone i've ever seen. Therefore he is on my list.
