Bring on a psychedelic revolution

i dont know about anyone else, but i love psychedelia music and everything it represents- love, freddom, getting off your head on pot. the songs are amazing and so unique. being born in '87 i missed it by a long way, but we need a new flower power era!!! its not everyones cup of tea, some of you probably hate it, but reply if you can be bothered!

:pimp:

franscar 12-01-2004 10:43 AM

I have to do a research project on it next term, I'll reply back then. I'm quite looking forward to it too.

MyWorld 12-01-2004 10:12 PM

I think psychedelic music is kinda cool, and I think I would of loved the 60's. It seems like such a cool period of time. I would of wanted to be a flower child:) I've never tried drugs though and I don't want to, so I'd leave that part of it out. I know that was kind of a big part of it but I like the clothes and music and stuff.

i love everything about the 60's. The shows were great, the clothes were great, the drugs were great. I would have enjoyed very much so to live back then.

HeavyMetalKid 12-21-2004 01:03 AM

The 60's had NO
P.C.'s
C.D.'s,

NO
DVD's
MP3's
VCR's
MTV
SUV's
No Skateboards,No Snowboards
No Microwaves
No cable TV.
Early 60's music was
god awful bubblegum.
Mid 60's music was better if you liked
the snap, crackle, pop, from the lp's
It wasn't all that great,
There were riots and protests,
not to mention the draft, all that's left from the 60's
are the 58,000 names on the wall.

rise_above 12-21-2004 01:07 AM

what are your fav songs. mine are the wall by pink floyd and purple haze by hendrix

i always think of hendrix for the guitar and not the psychedelia, but as you mention it, he was probably one of the most psychedelic artists out there! voodoo child or crosstown traffic for me. pink floyd id say darkside of the moon.

but the 60s also had no worldwide terrorist threat, no western aids epidemics. theres riots and protests everywhere today.
and in reference to your LP statement, it all depends on your tastes, if you like the new metal thing then you werent gonna be a fan of 60s music (though zeppelins debut album was in the 60s and they started heavy metal, nvm). its all about opinions at the end of the day.

ish 12-21-2004 09:21 AM

just do it how the hippies do my friends....PEACE and no need to fight about it...the 60's would have been a beautiful time to live in...

I'm a big fan of 60's 70's music. The LP statement had nothing to do with taste, The records actually had snap, crackles and pops on them. It sure was great to hear a clean version of Dark Side of the Moon on CD.

who cares about dvds and vcrs and all the other useless crap u mentioned, the 60's was a great fukin period in time.

Enfilade 01-14-2005 08:34 PM

You are my people. I love the ideals of that time period I would give anything to be around back then. The main problem was the world is simply not the same place as it was 40 years ago.. Multinational corps. have made sure that no more outburts of peace, love, and non-consumerism will occur. From now on all new cultural "revolutions" are going to be brought on BY and for the purpose of commercialism. The world is tainted.

But really, if you want to live in that type of.. environment.. just go for it man, thats what I do.. I just live up to my own ideals, which happen to be very sympathetic with those of the 60's.

PS - I just happened to be listening to the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack by The Beatles when I found this thread. (watch that movie stoned)

There was just as much crap music in the 60s as there is now.

People always look at the past with rose tinted glasses.

No people only want to remember the good things about the past, why remember the bad?

Sneer 01-15-2005 06:42 AM

..ok the theme of this is changing.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-15-2005 08:51 AM

I`m still waiting for examples of great some psychedelic bands. I`ve only seen 8 mentioned so far & i`ve heard all of those. So far nobody has mentioned the Pretty Things , Creation or 13th Floor Elevators & i`m not even that knowledgable about the genre.

Ahh thats better

Don`t know if i`d class Captain Beefheart as psychadelic though maybe some of his stuff can be classed as that, but I think he`s much broader than the term implies.

Sneer 01-15-2005 10:43 AM

would you say some of the new mersey-beat bands such as the coral, bandits and maybe even the zutons have west coast influences? id certainly say so. the thrills perhaps too.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-15-2005 10:51 AM

In the case of the Thrills i`d say not so much an influence , more of a wholesale robbery.

Blue Sunday 08-21-2007 07:33 AM

gotta throw in Donovan, The Amboy Dukes, The 5th Dimension, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Blue Cheer, Aphrodite`s Child, and the Electric Prunes...to name a few.

Seltzer 08-21-2007 07:03 PM

I have a liking for old psychedelia... jewels like:

Fuzzy Duck, the Flow, Sage, Spot, The Zodiac, Mammut, Egg, Irish Coffee, Elias Hulk, Corpus, Art, Felt, Goldenrod, Gift, Brigg...

Well I am glad someone mentioned the 13th Floor Elevators. I would like to add Country Joe and The Fish
