Did that person really type Love Wolves in the Throne Room? It makes me think of bestiality.

Also known as gray metal.

Laces Out Dan! 02-16-2009 06:52 PM

Moderately black metal is the only metal I listen to. Great stuff.

Seltzer 02-16-2009 07:00 PM

Personally I like my black metal to be smooooth.

Give me some of that Kenny Gorgoroth any day.

:D

The Red Hot Dimmu Borgirs and Captain Burzum and his Magic Band are not bad either.

Demonoid 02-17-2009 03:48 AM

This thread delivers .

I've heard it all now...from Moderate black metal to Unblack metal (yes, something like that apparently exists!)

What's next?

Guybrush 02-17-2009 03:52 AM

^Yellow metal with purple polka dots?

.. Like Zappa & Beck meets Mayhem.

edit :

Ugh, according to wikipedia : "Unblack metal (also known as Christian black metal) is a term used in reference to black metal bands whose lyrics and imagery depict Christianity positively."

Maybe it doesn't take so much modification. Instead of "we aim our arrows at the throne of christ", you just scratch christ and replace it with Satan.

Demonoid 02-17-2009 04:16 AM

^
I suppose that would be it! Black metal that's against black metal?
Funny thing is that, although I've listened to a lot of black metal myself, I've hardly even read the lyrics of any album completely. Always get bored of it half way through.

Yeah, the lyrics usually suck ass. I always find myself wishing they were written in a language I didn't understand so I could just enjoy the music without being distracted by the retarded lyrics.

Guybrush 02-17-2009 04:30 AM

^Unless you know norwegian, you could listen to the (usually earlier) norwegian black metal songs .. And then you have to try not to figure out what they mean, of course.

På kristi flesk vi spytter
La det råtne
Et symbol på godhetens bortgang
Et skuespill der endes

edit :

Here's a black metal song I don't understand a word of - except possibly "sex".

The place where that is filmed look a lot like where I come from. :p

Metal_lover 02-17-2009 06:28 AM

Marilyn Manson ;)

Inuzuka Skysword 02-17-2009 03:50 PM

Windir doesn't have too bad lyrics (at least poetically) and Agalloch's lyrics are very poetic. The subject matter that black metal tends to choose is usually boring though.

Surell 02-17-2009 08:17 PM

I take it this is pussy Black Metal?

TheBig3 02-18-2009 11:55 AM

Dio

Zer0 02-18-2009 02:23 PM

How about some Christian Black Metal?

Aye, so much more boring than writing about love, drugs and murder. I mean lyrical themes about paganism and folklore are downright unoriginal.

Yeah, you're right. They are pretty unoriginal.

I don't know man. Would I rather observe Kurt Cobain's lyrics (not a fanboy, but he is a great example of one who wrote about drugs, sex, murder, love, etc.) than Bathory or something.

Black Metal lyricists usually don't even try to get intimate with their lyrics anyways. Half the time they are just joking around.

Usually if they aren't truly Satanic the lyrics they give symbolizes a fight for independence... Gorgoroth anyone?
