People still buy albums by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

If that isn't a negative effect from hearing music I don't know what is.

No form of music has a negative effect on people. Rock/Metal music is just blamed a lot because of the subject matter some bands have, like Slayer, Marylin Manson, etc. The negativity comes from within a person, not the type of music they listen too.

Glad this is getting posts and thanks for your opinions but I do agree with you guys..it has to do with the person not the music. But there are people who do think that music is to blame. But still thanks for giving your opinions.

there will always be people who look for an arbitrary source of blame because they fear taking independent responsibility for their own beliefs.

Exaaaactly.
I think it's the same as parents blaming violent video games for their child's violent tendencies in order to remain in denial of the fact that they didn't exercise good parenting.

It basically boils down to parents and religious organizations outsourcing their guilt and responsibility. It's so much easier for people to point a finger rather than look in the mirror.

crash override basically hitting the nail on the head there. For me it just makes me calmer, the more brutal the music the calmer I get.
