It doesn`t matter because I don`t listen to that station , I think i`d die of boredom if i did.

I just think even for a 'rock' station it`s a pretty narrow list

Kentucky Woman 01-01-2005 07:41 PM

Well it's only the listeners opinions - and we are all entitled to them. :)

Highway_Star 01-01-2005 07:44 PM

Yeah - I'm sure a lot is down to age groups as well PR does seem to have an older demographic

new rose by the damned has to be my favourite punk song ever.

Highway_Star 01-02-2005 11:39 AM

Yeah some songs should be there imho - but it was a poll so they can put in what peeps vote for I guess...

Still not a bad list overall.

:D

If thats us then hell no. This board is dominated by people who started listening to music 5 years ago and not to mention that anytime someone says "do you like [insert band name]" they go on to list only the crap played on the radio.

Go back and read the queen post where they quoted "we will rock you", these aren't fans of bands, there fans of radio stations and greatest hits discs.

Oooh harsh! Fair but harsh!

Obviously directly at me - I'm not 18, I'm 38 and have been listening to music for a good while (not the time you indicate!).

Crap to you may NOT be crap to other people - its simply opinion - which we are all entitled to. So I take on board that you don't like the top 100 listed here in this thread - and you obviously have a low opinion of me and my choice of music but I'd appreciate it if you didn't put your views of ME on this board - but that solely of the music.

It's really fine if you don't like the choices in the top 100 but it's apparent that the listener of PR do. End of!

*off soapbox*

Highway_Star 01-03-2005 01:57 PM

Can't see how that post relates to you, KW - on balance maybe I should have read it more carefully..

Musically snobbery is lame.

Kentucky Woman 01-03-2005 01:59 PM

Well I know it was me. C'est la vie.

Highway_Star 01-03-2005 02:01 PM

Ah forget it - he's clearly got a stick up his a*se!

I don't think musicbanter is as musically ignorant as you assume we are. You should refer to the top 100 list in the original post, those songs were radio hits as well. Hating radio and MTV has become so fashionable. To generalize an entire broadcast system or an entire website seems a bit naive. Regardless, I can think of AT LEAST ten members on this site that can come up with an equally good or even better list than the one Planet Rock voters produced. :hphones:

Highway_Star 01-03-2005 03:05 PM

heh I am sure! The point was that the list was voted for by listeners. It does only reflect the opinions of those who listen to that particular station agreed.

But the post was made to encourage opinions and debate - certainly succeeded there I feel! :D

And no I have no connection with them - just agree with KW that's it a great station.

HS.

Kentucky Woman 01-03-2005 03:24 PM

Amen to that!

Unless you wrote the Queen comment way back (and in my brain that could be 3 days or more) it was not directed at you. The point is, if musical banter had its own top 100 it would be god awful and in no way in step with what talent is.

Also, can we end with the "personal opinion" crap. If I was to say the New York Mets were the best team in baseball, yes I'd be entitled to my opinion but in no way can I be seen as correct. I can see Linkin Park having 3 or more spots on our top 100 list if everyone voted and while opinion is fine, the board is flooded with people who don't know music before '88. Get off your high horse, you know as well as I do that a top 100 list here would be so terrible. :finger:

He`s right

A top 100 in here would only be good if I wrote it

ahhn it be good to you cause its your top 100 im not sayin it be bad but well you probaly get what im sayin everyone would think their top 100 was the best cause its thier top 100.

hookers with machineguns 01-03-2005 07:47 PM

There's only one way to find out if musicbanter would produce a decent list....

Exactly the point I was making.

sleepy jack 01-03-2005 07:49 PM

Then I agree.

Highway_Star 01-04-2005 03:43 AM

All these lists are opinions - but I agree - my personal list would be the best :P

Pink Floydian#1 01-04-2005 03:47 AM

Well considering there are 5 PF songs in there yes. Alot of great rock songs!

Kentucky Woman 01-04-2005 03:57 AM

heh heh! Opinions are generally keep a thread alive - whatever the topic!

PS: My list would be better! :P

Highway_Star 01-04-2005 03:59 AM

Better? Yeah - not as good as mine though!

:D

Pink Floydian#1 01-04-2005 04:03 AM

I wouldn't be able to pack them into 100 songs, it more likely be 500 songs.

Highway_Star 01-04-2005 04:05 AM

Music does tend to be a very personal thing I guess - no two people would have the same top 100.

Does make life more interesting though!

Pink Floydian#1 01-04-2005 04:13 AM

Oh for sure. If you've ever red utopia or brave new world or seen the movie brazil, thats why i like everyone being different!!

dog 01-11-2005 04:35 AM

im not sure, i like most of the bands up there tho

Kentucky Woman 01-11-2005 09:44 AM

:D - yay! Another lover of gooood music! (And the thread survives for a bit longer!)

Highway_Star 01-11-2005 10:31 AM

There should be - when you consider what forum we in ;) something there for everyone!

:P

riseagainstrocks 01-11-2005 08:29 PM

Well it is a Rock list...not a punk or grunge or hardcore or emo list. I would assume that most of the bands would be straight up Rock. And hookerswithmachineguns, that is a great idea. We should make our own list.

You know I'd like to make a case against this conventional wisdom. If we all liked the same music you'd never have to ride in a car with that friend of a friend you were going to a show with and have their god aweful "mixed tape" in the tape deck. You havn't felt musical pain till you've gone to see a halfway hippie act with a borderline trancendentalist driving. If I have to hear a fricken Jump Little Children jam one more time ill punch myself in the damn face.
