To me, if a song is disposable, it was never really good in the first place.

I used to listen to Limp Bizkit, I now acknowledge that their music sucks.

I used to be heavy into Nirvana, but while I don't really listen to them anymore, I still consider them a great band and I can still enjoy their music when I listen to it.

That's exactly the type of thing I mean when I say people are too possessive.

What's wrong with enjoying it for what it is?

Engine 07-03-2009 11:32 AM

What IS a disposable song and how do you enjoy one?

boo boo 07-03-2009 11:33 AM

Eh, we just have different ways of viewing music.

I mean people always say things like "it's a bad song but I love it"

Well, if you love it, then how can it really be a bad song?

Gulty pleasure is a real silly term when you think about it, if I truly felt guilty for liking something, I wouldn't be listening to it.

BTown 07-03-2009 06:11 PM

I have a question, and I want you guys to be completely honest.
If Incesticide (Nirvana's album released after Nevermind whcih contained recordings from the when they were trying to find drumers before they found Dave Grohl before Nevermind was released) had the publicity that Nevermind had, and Nevermind got the publicity Incesticide received, but still contained the same songs which one would you truly be more proud to say you like? Would you dismiss Incesticide due to its publicity?

boo boo 07-03-2009 07:14 PM

The difference is Nevermind is pretty consistant throughout while Incesticide is half brilliant songwriting and half WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS?

The only weak track I found on that one was New Wave Polly.. do we really need a terrible rendition of an otherwise decent Nevermind song?

You just wipe with it once and then flush.

I actually liked that version more than the Nevermind one (which is my least favorite track from that album).

But anyway. Aneurysm is a goddamn work of a genius, it's the best thing Kurt ever wrote.

Dive, Been a Son, Sliver and Stain are also great. Downer and Big Long Now are pretty good. The 3 cover songs are decent but they don't really sound suitable for Nirvana. They sound, dare I say it, Green Day-ish.

Aero Zeppelin is meh. And Beeswax, Mexican Seafood and Hairspray Queen. All I can say for those are just WTF.

BTown 07-03-2009 09:13 PM

The only ones I don't like off of Incesticide are Big Long Now, Aero Zeppelin and Hairspray queen. I love Beeswax and I have to agree Anuerysm is easily one of Kurt Cobain's best written songs.

I love the Vaselines covers but the Devo one is below average and Stain has an insane guitar solo.
I can see were you are coming from by calling the cover songs Green Day-ish, they seemed a lot more Pop-y than a lot of Nirvanas other stuff.
Dive and Sliver are up there with my favorite Nirvana songs though, next to Oh, The Guilt.

Totally agreed. I felt that Zeitgeist sat very well in their catalog. Unfortunately now that Jimmy's left the band they've lost a key element to the sound so we'll have to see what happens. I was definitely one of the fans that was totally behind the Pumpkins name being revived despite it only being Billy and Jimmy, because Billy pretty much recorded all the guitar and bass himself on most of the best stuff. But Jimmy's drum style was such a signature thing - I can't say I'm not a little worried the next stuff won't live up to the catalog.

Heres hoping Jimmy returns, but it's looking pretty unlikely. I wouldn't even mind another Adore-type drum machine album.

Adore is the one Pumpkins album I just don't really like at all. It's got some good songs, but I'm never in the mood for it and it just lags behind the rest of the catalog.

Seriously. Incesticide is awesome and some of their Bleach-era demos are even better. I don't get all the negative comments - and "Aero Zeppelin" and "Mexican Seafood" are two of my favorites on the record too.

S_Shinji 07-05-2009 11:54 PM

I skipped the long ass conversation to pop in and say Nirvana got me into rock, and I still like them to this day.

Same with me man.

Pretty generic question here, but what's everyones favorite Nirvana song?
Mine is between Oh, The Guilt and Milk It.

S_Shinji 07-06-2009 12:11 AM

Tough choice, I really like Lithium, Lounge Act, Negative Creep, HSB, and a lot of others. I probably have to go with Lithium.

Wow that's a tough one...I'll just pick favorites by album...

Bleach - "About A Girl"
Nevermind - "Lounge Act"
Incesticide - "Aero Zeppelin"
In Utero - "Serve the Servants"

B Sides/Rare
- "Verse Chorus Verse" (the orginal song, not the one that ended up on No Alternative under that name - although that's a great song too)

SATCHMO 07-06-2009 01:36 AM

Molly's Lips

someonecompletelyrandom 07-06-2009 12:17 PM

Francis Farmer will have her revenge on Seattle is tops. Paper Cuts is a pretty wild one, as well as Endless Nameless.

On A Plain
Drain You
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Come As You Are
All Apologies

I had a hard time choosing.

Strangely likeable, isn't it?

It's completely awesome... that's what remixing should be. I'm amazed at how well it fits.

Without question it's 'Love Buzz', which I just learned 15 seconds ago is actually a cover...

Are you trying to say that the music is so strong that it even sounds good paired with the horrendous Rick Astley or just think that posting a clever video means you have a bigger **** then me?

Either way, that was awesome, and you probably have a bigger **** then me.

Black People Are Cool 08-04-2009 06:48 PM

The're good. But honestly I don't think they live up to the hype

Rat 08-29-2009 02:19 PM

The best band!

Nirvana is and always will be my favorite band ever. I got all there albums. And I can't wait to get the new live cd and dvd from the 1992 show in London, England when it comes out in November. I also own a old hand me down Nirvana t-shirt. WOO! NIRVANA RULES!

JenniferS 08-29-2009 07:15 PM

I love Nirvana, and even though Kurt died six months before I was born, I can assure you that I love them for their music, and it's not just Smells Like Teen Spirit. I bought Incesticide today, and I've already got Bleach and In Utero. As for my favourite songs by them, Dive, Sifting, School and Rape me take the prize.

All I can say really is that if you're new to Nirvana, listen to a few of their songs, but don't just go for Teen Spirit or Come As You Are, try out a few of their less famous tracks.

Low Void 10-27-2009 11:40 AM

Nirvana are friggin' awesome. It's true that alot of people heard of them because of Cobain's death but that does not negate the fact that their music rocks. The enormous influence The Pixies had on them is evident throughout their short career. I'm talking about the dynamics of soft verses-loud choruses and the overall simplicity that defines Nirvana music.

MattKinsky 10-27-2009 02:08 PM

I like Nirvana but sometimes I feel that their hardcore fans can be a bit too hardcore when it comes to talking about their music..

lu galasso 10-27-2009 02:36 PM

Still love Nirvana, but agree...sometimes their fans can be just a little bit TOO devoted.

Public Enemy 07-01-2010 01:43 PM

Your favourite songs from Nirvana MTV Unplugged In New York

I love the album and I have the performence on DVD and it's very entertaining. I want to know what are your favourite songs from the album. Mine is and will always be Where did you sleep last night. Please let me know what yours is.

Violent & Funky 04-05-2011 06:04 AM

I thought Grohl was against releasing old Cobain stuff?

DoctorSoft 04-05-2011 07:54 PM

One of their rarer songs I always LOVED was Do Re Mi, pretty different from most songs that Cobain wrote.

someonecompletelyrandom 04-05-2011 08:47 PM

RIP to Mr. Cobain. :(
