Universally Respected Metal Bands?
 

Is there any metal band that is respected by or listened to by a majority (if possible, all) metal fans? My metalhead friends and I can't seem to agree in any sense as to what "good" metal is, and each of us dislikes the others' favorites.

Metal is a somewhat tough sub-genre of rock, because so many rock bands could easily be classified as metal and so many bands calling themselves metal sometimes work better as other genres of rock. What makes a good band in general has to do with mostly personal taste. With that being said the only band I can think of that most metal fans is Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne's solo career. There's probably others, but I can't include Metallica, because there's a huge base against them more so than for them. Another two could be Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, but again, it's hard to find a singular band or solo career that every metal head will agree on, so my best guess is Ozzy.

Motorhead are pretty well liked by most kinds of metalheads.

Slayer. hard to find people who dislike one of the best thrash bands around.

I have found that there really is no truly universally respected metal band. Even the the most liked bands will have some amount of haters for whatever reason.

But the closest bands I find are:

Iron Maiden
Gorguts
Black Sabbath
Atheist

Word. I can't stand metal but Slayer's fun in small doses.

Black Sabbath who could hate that band ?????
