Favorite EPs
What are your guys' favorite extended plays/EPs?
For me, it doesn't get much better than Tool's Opiate. Just a solid collection of 6 (7 if you count hidden tracks) heavy as **** songs. As much as I like Tool, Opiate might be my favorite CD of theirs. |
I love In God We Trust, Inc. by Dead Kennedys. Every song is brilliant, lyrically and musically. The cover and the name are amazing as well.
I'll have to think a bit more, though, since I tend to just classify everything as a studio or a live album or a bootleg instead of as EPs or LPs. |
Belle And Sebastian-Lazy Line Painter Jane
|
Dillinger Escape Plan "Irony Is A Dead Scene"
Lagwagon "I Think My Older Brother Used To Listen To Lagwagon" Genghis Tron "Cloak Of Love" The Mars Volta "Tremulant" all come to mind |
The Clash-The Cost Of Living E.P.
The Clash-Black Market Clash |
So many classic early Black Flag EPs, HORSE the Band too. Devo's Be Stiff is also great.
A few off the top of my head. |
My Bloody Valentine-You Made Me Realise
|

I was right there with you about Broken possibly being the best NIN release, but With Teeth?! No. I like it more than some people do, but no way does it top Broken or even the first 2 albums IMO.
|
Modest Mouse has had a couple of nice EPs, Building Nothing Out of Something especially...

Downward Spiral is pretty good, but I feel like it loses itself sometimes. I haven't listened to it in a while, though, so I could definitely give that another listen. I really like Pretty Hate Machine as well, especially after listening to it again this weekend. What do you think of the entire Year Zero project, ARG included? Personally I think it's one of the most brilliant musical related projects ever conceived. |
Tool - Opiate
Arctic Monkeys - Who The **** Are Arctic Monkeys? |
Minuteflag-Minuteflag
A jam between Black Flag and The Minutemen so good. |

Two of my personal favorites from the past decade:

I just downloaded Jesu's Silver EP because I keep hearing about them, but haven't heard them. Also, because you liked it. : D

I don't actually have many EPs (or at least so far as I can recall), but here are a couple of favourites that I've got stashed away somewhere...
Luke Haines - Leeds United http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg David Bowie - Baal http://www.multinet.no/~jonarne/Hjem...bowie/Baal.jpg |

Why the fuck all the songs on this album were cut from Mellon Collie is beyond me... had some of them been included on the 2nd disk I might have actually liked it. http://funkysouls.com/img/Bandits_Of...P-2001-FST.jpg 9 years later and I'm still left waiting for a goddamn follow up  |

AC/DC's '74 Jailbreak. Everything from Jailbreak to Baby Please Don't Go has great singing and guitar work.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/albu...b5d/133567.jpg The Clean - Boodle Boodle Boodle EP I remember giving this quite a few listens, great stuff. Favourite track would be Anything Could Happen. Edit: I realise this might not fit in with the Rock & Metal sub forum, but oh well. |

I grabbed the Almost Red EP from slsk though. Couldn't find The Malicious Singles. |
No one has mentioned Jar of Flies by Alice in Chains. It's my favorite by them besides the Unplugged performance.
|
|
That jesu EP is great, by the way.
There are a few that come to mind. The Raveonettes - Whip It On Jurassic 5 EP Jeff Buckley - Live From The Bataclan (with fantastic versions of Je N'en Connais Pas la Fin and The Way Young Lovers Do on it.) Manic Street Preachers - New Art Riot. |

And uh... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ltvlPJkcIR...B-%2BFront.jpg Suffocations "Human Waste" EP. One of my first experiences with the more extreme side of Metal, kinda got me hooked. Plus, the artwork is just straight up badass. |

Alice In Chains - Jar Of Flies
BEST EP...EVER. |
^
Great EP, but my favorite will probably be: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Smashing Pumpkins - Lull It has a few of my favorite SP tracks...Rhinoceros is on Gish, but works well with the other 3 tracks. Blue and Slunk are two intense rockers that are a great transition from the slick psychedelic sound of Gish to the ear pounding fuzz of Siamese Dream. Bye June is a leftover from their pre-Gish recording sessions, but is one of their most catchy and addicting acoustic numbers. |
Vivida Vis! - Against Me!
It's just Tom being angry which is when Against Me! is good. |
Ugh, so many good ones. I guess I'll go with:
