Hulk Hogan Auditioned For Metallica

I had read this from somewhere else:

Quote:

Former professional wrestler and full-time overprotective dad Hulk Hogan auditioned to play bass for both Metallica and the Rolling Stones during the 1980s, according to his forthcoming autobiography My Life Outside the Ring.

Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, Hogan said: “I was in England presenting an award with Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger’s ex, and she told me the [Rolling] Stones were looking for a bass player. I sent her a ton of merchandise that she asked for and said ‘Tell Mick I’m a great bass player.’ I never heard a word back."

He went on: “When Metallica was looking for a bass player, I called and never heard a word back from them either. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be a bass player for Metallica.”

Hogan made a living as a journeyman bass player while in college, and continued to attempt to make it as a musician during his early wrestling days. His daughter, Brooke, is now a successful solo artist with two albums to her name.
What Do You Think Would Have Happened If Metallica Hired Him?

They would have squandered all their credibility long before becoming megastars.

Your thread title's a bit misleading though, according to that article he never actually auditioned.

they would have turned into the biggest joke ever. really though, Hogan was already the biggest thing in wrestling in the 80s - it could even be argued that Hogan was significantly bigger than Metallica was in the 80s as well. his career was taking off into superstardom when Metallica was only getting started.

I don't think it could be argued, I think it's pretty much a fact that he was bigger than Metallica in the 80s.

There's no argument. Hulkamania was bigger than everything in the 80s and early 90s, trust me I was there.

I remember seeing a bio on Hulk and he was playing a guitar and he wasn't too terrible. Don't be quick to judge guys maybe he's a pretty good bass player. I wouldn't be surprised if he's better than Newsted anyway.
