Soundgardener 03-28-2005 11:27 AM

Cake is a cool unique band. ^^^Those are all good songs by the way. Some of my favorite songs are "The Distance", "No Phone", "Sheep Go To Heaven", "Italian Leather Sofa."

TheBig3 03-28-2005 11:46 AM

This band is one of my favorite. Their awesome live, if you're up for so deep cuts try "Ain't no good for you" "You part the water" "Hem of your garmet" and "Comfort Eagle." Those are a few of my favorite tracks from them, i'd put it on a mix (cake mix)

I think The Distance was their one hit wonder but I also liked No Phone...I was hoping to buy their new album: Short Skirt, Long Jacket.

Absolutly not. They've had tons of "hits" on the radio. Sheep go to Heaven, Never there, Short Skirt long Jacket.

Also SSLJ is off their 4th album, their new Album Pressure Cheif (which has No Phone) is not called SSLJ . (The 4th was called Comfort Eagle)

Trauma 03-29-2005 08:25 PM

I don't know, I looked up one hit wonders and it has The Distance on the list but I really liked that song Short Skirt Long Jacket too.

Trauma 03-29-2005 08:26 PM

(even if that has nothing to do with it being a hit)

TheBig3 03-29-2005 10:11 PM

Well I wouldn't count chart position as something being a hit.

Trauma 03-29-2005 10:11 PM

right you are

Cake fans anyone?

Cake is an awesome band with a unique talent... has songs such as "Building a Religion" and the remake "I will survive" but not very popular... actually, i dont really know anyone except for 1 person who have even heard of them... anyone fans of them or even know them?:hphones:

TheBig3 08-24-2005 07:14 PM

Um im a super fan, and its not "building a religeon" its "comfort eagle". I've seen them 3 or 4 times. Amazing band, ill write more in 10 mins.

sexy_drug 08-25-2005 04:45 AM

Ahhh Cake Are ****ing KICK ARSE WOOO

TheBig3 08-27-2005 11:44 AM

The guy who plays trumpet in that band is amazing. I was rather disappointed with their last CD having alot of machinery involved, but it was still good. And their last concert I went to this summer was on fire. They even brought out "Ruby sees all" from Motorcade of Generocity.

ArmyofMe 04-17-2006 08:57 PM

Cake

I haven't heard them mentioned once so far and was just wondering if anyone knows who they are. (yes, i know who they are...)

Keroro 04-17-2006 11:01 PM

I got Comfort Eagle a year or, so ago. It's really catchy I like it.

Cheese 04-18-2006 01:48 AM

Cake....Hmmmmm. I have "Fashion Nugget" and "Comfort Eagle" floating around somewhere. Not bad, but I find you've got to be in the right mood for a listen.

NaNaNer 01-03-2007 11:28 AM

If you ever get to see this band live - DO!!

MURDER JUNKIE 01-03-2007 11:30 AM

I like ice cream cake with the fudge crackle in the middle

The Unfan 01-03-2007 01:00 PM

Not bad, but not something I'm totally into as much as I probably should be. I enjoy them in small doses.

ThirdEyeOpen 01-03-2007 06:51 PM

Cake is a great band. You'll never find a band that sounds like them. The combination of horns and normal band instruments (guitar, bass, drums), along with their lead singer's super unique voice and weirdass lyrics make them good. Check out the song "Friend Is A Four Letter Word", because it's spectacular.

NaNaNer 01-04-2007 07:34 AM

Good song that is..I havent heard it in awhile..

Someone care to share?

Cheese 01-04-2007 10:29 PM

Yep, Friend Is A Four Letter Word, Never There and Frank Sinatra are my favs.

TheBig3 12-11-2007 02:39 AM

Like the Flamming Lips with less recognition, Cake has arrived as elder statesmen ten years plus into their career.

The melodies are certainly great, but the backing harmonies that the crowd constantly sing in concert make every song for me. Not to mention that as Trumpeters go (and granted I don't know many), Vincent DiFiori (I could have spelled that wrong) is absolutely dynamite.

The lyrics too tend to be bare-boned and minimal, getting to the point rather than writing something to make the literary world take notice. And you can tell where the influence came from, when they cover Willie Nelsons' "sad songs and waltzes", its hard to tell when that starts becoming a Cake song.

I honestly don't think they ever had the recognition they deserved and you can never guess as to why with these types of things but I guess we should just consider ourselves lucky to be in league with great music.

Seltzer 12-11-2007 06:21 AM

I was learning Opera Singer on bass the other day.
