I am really quite a massive fan of Grace Slick, but it has to be Janis

Grace Slick without a doubt, she always had a powerful unique voice.

Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Karen O, and Stevie Nicks are in my top four.

I think I'd probably have Patti Smith in ahead of one of the latter two but that's a pretty damn fine top four.

Dont you mean Patty Smyth? (just kidding)

Oh..I forgot to mention, That Van Halen actually offered Patty Smyth the position as lead vocalist before asking Sammy Hagar, she graciously and (obviously) refused the offer.

I like a lot of the singers mention like Janis Joplin, Lennie Annox, & Stevie Nicks. I know most people gravitate to strong loud voices e.g. John Mayer called Hayley Williams "The great orange hope." When she screams imo it sounds like her voice go flat. So I like regular singings with good technique but who don't hot dog it all the time.

My pick is Chrissie Hynde, she has a nice soft voice she sings with a lot of emotion and has good vibrato. She can do both ballads with a sentimental touch and she belt out a rock song too. And imo you can say the same thing about Stevie Nicks.

Also nobody`s mentioned Kate Bush, surely one of the most distinctive sounding female artists ever.
