I am not actually listening to this but heard it today so decided to give it another listen................really? Is this really what the kids are listening to these days? This is grade A s**t with a stamp on it. They are not good at EITHER genre (whatever genre they are supposed to be) or am I just getting too old?

Oh and please don't tell me I am being narrow minded, you know me far better than that.

^ You aren't old. It's just that there's always shitty lets-try-to-pass-this-off-as-metal in every generation Lee.

On another note, really enjoying the latest album from Subsignal.

Newest Gorguts album. Metal album of the year to my ears.

I'd highly recommend the Svn Okklt compilation. if you're not into paying for the double cassette format it comes in, you can download it from Fallen Empire Record's bandcamp, I believe for whatever amount one feels is just.

Just bought Rust in Peace, the 2004 remixed and remastered version. Sad to find out some of the vocals were re-recorded, and that the general sound of the album was altered, too. I'd like to know what it really was supposed to sound like. Hope I'm not missing anything important. Should I fish the receipt out of the trash can and go back to the store to see if I can get a non-remixed version, or do you think it's fine?

EDIT: I called the store, apparently that's not possible. I guess I should accept that this is how Mustaine wants me to hear the album. Idiot. Well, the non-remix is on Spotify, anyway. And I have the demo bonus tracks.

I've heard of over-remastering but rerecording vocals? Who on Earth would **** on their own masterpiece like that? Besides George Lucas.

Mustaine did it to all of the early Megadeth albums. He added/replaced other parts too. The new "mixes" do have better sound quality in some cases but who wants to hear him replace vocal and guitar parts? Nobody. It's totally a George Lucas situation (except for Dave didn't try to stop people from buying or even hearing the originals).

Sepultura's always been a band I've been lazy about digging into. I like them, but if I'm listening to more extreme thrash then I'd rather go with Slayer or Exhorder or Morbid Saint. If I want early death metal I'd rather listen to Death or Morbid Angel. I definitely dig their debut though, since it's got that ugly, primitive energy I've always loved about Bathory and Hellhammer.

I think I'll try to get a non-remixed version sometime. It'd be hard (and probably expensive) finding a non-remastered copy, but the 2011 one should be much more true to the original than the 2004 screw-up. I compared the two different versions of both Peace Sells... and Rust in Peace available on Spotify, and there sure is a difference, even though both are remastered. Then again, I think all my albums are remastered, so I guess I shouldn't mind.

I have purposefully gone out of my way to find the original CD releases of Megadeth's music as I was absolutely appalled by buying So Far So Good a few years back to hear a remastered version that quite frankly sucked. To be fair Megadeth have never quite had the producer that could bring the best out of their music apart from Randy Burns on Peace Sells. The original album captures them at their best IMO.
