This is late as hell. Sorry!

I love surf music, and Orange County was definitely the perfect breeding ground for it. I've been to OC a couple of times, as well as other parts of SoCal. The music fits the lifestyle.

Dick Dale is the epitome of surf music.

Also, Jan & Dean

The Chantays

And of course, the Beach Boys

Interesting little tidbit about the King of Surf Guitar: he wasn't from anywhere near California. He grew up clear on the other side of the country in Quincy, Massachusetts.

I saw him in concert back in the late 90s and he was still rocking pretty hard for a guy in his 60s. The three most memorable things about show for me were: the fact that he actually played that "Misirlou" trumpet solo himself on a trumpet handed to him by a stagehand in the middle of the song, the multi-song flamenco set he played in the middle of the show, and the fact that my friend and I were able to talk to him briefly after the show. He seemed like a nice guy, and definitely pretty wacky.

That's so cool. Must have been quite the experience!

One of my all time favorite performances ever.

1) It's a cover of one of my favorite songs and one of the best covers I've ever heard of it
2) It's Dick Dale in his old age, being an absolute badass

Perfect timing for surf rock week, as I am going to see Dick Dale in a few days.
I've seen him on three other occasions over the years and he always delivers the musical goods!
Hell of a nice guy, too! Always stays after the show to meet the fans and sign autographs for everyone who wants one.

A lot of great albums by a lot of great bands on that RYM list. Many of them are in my personal collection on vinyl & CD.
Glad to see The Mermen are so highly regarded on it. If I had to pick an all time favorite surf rock band, they would be it.
I'd like to see them tour outside of the west coast for a change. It's been a while since they were in my neck of the woods.

I loved Les Claypool's Frog Brigade's Hendershot... but I'm a bit in the dark, besides Dick Dale....

I do love surf sounds.

Oh yea, what about Yawning Man... stoner surf... although I think it's more ... desert music....
