What's the best Anthrax album with which to start?
I'm pretty well antiquated with the other big four of thrash, but I have no experience with Anthrax. Recommendations on a good starting place? "Spreading the Disease" was mentioned to me.
Also, who is your favorite Anthrax singer? |
I think that Joey Belladonna is the only "real" Anthrax singer. If I was you, I would start with Among the Living / Spreading the Disease, if you like them, you should consider listening to Persistence of Time and State of Euphoria. Worship Music is a good step to go from there and if you really dig it / don't like it at all, you should consider trying A Fistful of Metal (I personally don't like it very much, but a lot of people praise it as the best Anthrax album.)

Go with State of Euphoria or A Fistful of Metal. That's where most people I know started.

Among the Living is their quintessential album. Start there.

If you're also new to thrash, Spreading the Disease is an excellent place to start. It's not too complicated, and Joey's vocals are pretty much off the leash, so it's delightfully cheesy. There's not many metal albums that I just can't help but sing along to in my best/worst falsetto. Spreading the Disease is one of them.

Among the Living.

Their new album and their first with Belladonna since the early 90's is damn good and well worth a listen.
Spreading The Disease is by far my favourite as I have always seen Anthrax as a secret Heavy Metal band as opposed to a Thrash band although Among The Living is absolutely stellar too. My favourite Anthrax track ever and this is pure Heavy Metal IMO. |
I'm very familiar with Metallica (along with the rest of the world), and I have a few releases from both Slayer and Megadeth, but nothing from Anthrax.
Thanks for the recs... I'll go with Spreading and Living |

Honestly, I think State of Euphoria(drastically underrated), and Among the Living are the only Anthrax albums worth listening to. But, they're damn good.
