the entire album is awesome, the singles are probably their best as well

Necromancer 11-26-2011 12:34 PM

I like "Your All Ive Got Tonight" on side B OK, besides that..eh.

Yes, I should have been clearer. But it looks like that discussion died out anyway so perhaps a change is in order

Norm 11-27-2011 05:31 PM

Deicide - Deicide was an amazing debut album. Got it on cassette, vinyl and Cd :)

Most of the albums being discussed on here now are not very relevant either, as most are more than 25 years old anyway.

I agree with that. I don't particularly like the songs from side A, and that is the only seventies album I like. But of course we're talking about a debut from much more than 25 years ago. Maybe I have to defaul to Welcome to the Jungle, and as that was preceded by an EP, maybe it shouldn't count. Tears for Fears' first album was pretty good, judging by the singles, but I have no idea about the so-called album tracks. I am a big fan of Bad English (self-titled), but that was a supergroup and therefore only technically a debut.

The only 70s album by the Cars or any band?

The Bad English debut is a very good album if you like that polished soft rock sound (which I do) I never really liked John Waite as a vocalist or artist, but being backed by 50% of Journey, Ricky Phillips and Dean Castronovo really brought out the best in him.

sopsych 11-29-2011 09:46 PM

70's album, by any artist. And I forgot this is the rock section, so Tears for Fears wouldn't count. I like John Waite as a solo artist, lyrically and vocally, but I think he's better with a rock band behind him and Bad English had great musicians. That album managed to be rocking and have emotional depth, which I consider a rare combination. It could have been even bigger if the band had done a few more videos for MTV. By the way, John Waite released an album this year or last which rocks more than he has since Bad English and is pretty good - check out some of it on YouTube.

Track listing
1. "Bottom of a Bottle"
2. "Silhouettes"
3. "Nowhere Kids"
4. "This Is War"
5. "Therapy"
6. "For You"
7. "Your Way"
8. "The Other Side"
9. "Every Sunday"
10. "With This Knife"
11. "Radio in a Hole"
12. "All My Problems"
13. "I Want My Life"
14. "Eraser"

LOLPOCALYPSE 11-30-2011 07:44 AM

I can't say Smile Empty Soul is a good band at all, so I certainly wouldn't enjoy their debut. In fact they were one of the bands that caused me to quit listening to the radio. Post-grunge probably doesn't belong in this thread

Howard the Duck 11-30-2011 08:33 AM

unjustly maligned debut albums of the last 25 years:-

Limp Bizkit - Three Dollar Bill, Y'All
Korn - s/t
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

Goofle 11-30-2011 08:54 AM

Hybrid Theory is bad ass.

I agree, although I don't really care for a lot of Korn, a few singles here and there..

Now you`re the third person today to tell me to use my head.

"From the top to the bottom"

Oh yes!

From_Athens_We_Fled 11-30-2011 11:21 AM

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Focus by Cynic is pretty damn amazing. When I think of prog metal that is the first album to come to mind.

This quote might just get me through the rest of my day.

I'm wasn't trying to insult you or anything but I definitely don't like that band.

I'm not all metal either; I happen to have a pretty extensive electronic music taste.

Korn's debut was pretty good but the I don't like anything from the discography of the other two bands. Linkin Park (especially Chester) have an ego and unwarranted self-serious attitude that I don't particularly care for, and I always found their lyrics to be very juvenile. As for Limp Bizkit, well, they single handedly destroyed any possibility of nu metal becoming a dignified genre simply by its association with them.

I know that you weren't my friend. And I know that you do.

edit:
I will admit though, I fear the "Wrath" I'm going to eventually receive by Soldier.

I fear.. that I may have created my own eventual demise..:p:

R.I.P Necromancer, I`ll be sure to request a Pearl Jam song at your funeral.

Cock rock`s great (minus the hair metal version of it)

I actually think of STP as a hard rock act who just happened to get the grunge label, because of the time factor they were putting out their early albums. They weren`t pretending anything, they just got labelled.

Sneer 12-01-2011 05:06 PM

Streetcleaner by Godflesh has got to be up there.

hip hop bunny hop 12-01-2011 05:18 PM

It would be, but Streetcleaner wasn't the debut; there's a self-titled that came out before. Although, really, that album is so monumental it mine as well have been released by another band, considering how it contrasts to the rest of his discography in terms of style and impact.

Sneer 12-01-2011 05:20 PM

That was an EP though, I was of the impression we're talking about debut LPs?
