Bassist and Drummer wanted for cyber-band

Hi everyone!

A friend and I have started a curious project, a cyber-band. Since we are based in different countries (and continents) all our work is online. Each one records its track and then we mix it together. The result is quite interesting!

We started this as a hobby and actually we're having fun with it. I doubt if we will ever profit from it, but actually its a cool way to have fun, and in any case, its much better than being home playing WoW or Counter Strike.

The sound is sort of between goth and nu metal, although we're trying to do something slightly softer, we will see how it turns out. We have a demo online, if you wanna listen PM me, i'm not yet allowed to posts URLs here ;)

So here's the deal, we're looking for a bassist and a drummer, it doesnt matter where in the world you are, you just have to 1) Want to have fun and 2) be able to record yourself :)

Anyone interested feel free to post here or PM me.

Thanks!

Martin

i'd rather record everything myself really

the idea is nothing new

i have already asked around if anybody wanted to add something to my tracks

and i'm much better at guitar than bass, as for the drums, i'm borrowing a drum machine son

thepeak 01-29-2012 07:37 AM

Yeah I know its nothing new, theres even a website where people do that massively, however what I meant is that we're not taking it seriously, its mostly as a hobby and a way to have fun...

Of course its possible to record everything yourself, even if you dont play the instrument since you can easily put stuff together with software like Garageband, however its more fun when there are more people involved, I believe... Honestly I'm a total n00b at all this :)

And about your tracks, if you link me I'll surely see if there's something I could add, as I said, I'm far from being a professional musician (I'm far from being a musician actually haha) but for fun sake...

Howard the Duck 01-29-2012 07:44 AM

recording it myself means i play everything hands-on, besides the drums, which i'm gonna program

i'll PM you tomorrow - gotta catch some zzz's

thepeak 01-29-2012 08:17 AM

Well thats because you're talented haha

Ok, deal, I'll be waiting, see you!

As someone who's done quite a bit of studio work, I can say that it's hard enough recording everyone in a seperate room, let alone on different continents. It just sounds weird. And where's the fun of it? It's not like a cyber band can go down to their local venues and put on a show. Just meet some like-minded people in real life and start a band.

That's like me minus the can't play drums part.

i dont know... maybe thats the fun, doing something different... plus if i find like-minded people... they will surely like to do the cyber band thing hahaha

this not a professional project and doing it separately, i think, makes everything more flexible... this is just imho, i imagine a "real" band should be cool as well!

Well if you wanna help, just pm! btw our demo link is in my profile! (the band name is Vortaro :-)

Sorry nobody has seriously responded and mostly just shot down your idea thus far. Had this been a few years ago I would have loved to join, but nowadays I'm a little busier than I used to be. I've done these before and they're great fun, and as you said you're just doing it for fun. I think people seem to be missing that point.

Good luck!

Thank you Conan! At last, someone understands me!

Indeed its just for fun, nothing remotely serious, plus I'm totally new to this and I thought it'd be a fun thing to try. We'll see how it turns out!

Howard the Duck 01-30-2012 08:46 PM

i still think i have to buy my bass first

i'll pm you my email

Blarobbarg 01-30-2012 09:14 PM

If I had any recording equipment I'd lay down my personal brand of wacky drum beats for you guys... unfortunately, I don't. Best of luck to you guys though, it sounds like a blast.

Howard the Duck 01-30-2012 11:32 PM

i'd probably program the drum in different signatures for every bar anyway

and lay some dub bass on it

thepeak 01-31-2012 05:33 AM

Il Duce: Great! I'll contact you there.

Blarobbarg: It's ok, thanks a lot for your support anyway!

Above 01-31-2012 08:44 AM

You say it's for fun, but isn't most of the fun getting up on stage with your band and performing?

No it isn't. I could not care less about playing in front of people, and if I had a choice, I would never play a live show again. I don't need anyone to validate my musical ability because the act of making music itself is "most of the fun".

Amen brother!

Howard the Duck 01-31-2012 08:38 PM

ok band about almost formed

i don't think we're discounting a live show

we all can afford plane tickets

thepeak 02-01-2012 04:25 PM

Indeed! We need the drums... Yeah they can be programmed yadda yadda... but wheres the fun???? ;)

Howard the Duck 02-01-2012 11:35 PM

^^Mighty Salami has expressed an interest, but he's only good at keyboards

e-mail you about him later

thepeak 02-02-2012 01:24 PM

Awesome! Of course, the more the merrier! We need to do fusion! haha

Touchy. I smell projection.

The Batlord 02-03-2012 08:46 AM

Are we really going to have another pointless passive aggressive internet snit fit?

Howard the Duck 02-03-2012 08:46 AM

hasn't Above been mostly passive aggressive?

edit:- even if I do concur with her, if I make music with no intend of ANYBODY liking it, i might as well just play it in my mind

No. I merely responded to the hostility I got when I was genuinely curious of the appeal.

I don't think he was being hostile. He was just stating his opinion. The internet just made him look hostile.

thepeak 02-03-2012 02:20 PM

I am requesting ranting clearance...

Ok, now I just wanna say this is the Internet, I mean, you post a message just asking if somebody would like to help you with something, and instead of finding help, you find people complaining about it, saying its dumb, asking why you would like to do that and eventually a huge fight will emerge and everyone will forget about your problem... It's great...

Blarobbarg 02-03-2012 11:08 PM

Jeez guys, just chill out. Let thepeak and Il Duce and them have fun, seriously. Who the crap cares why they're doing it, they don't even need a reason.

As soon as you guys have some stuff together I want to hear it. :)

 I know. Some people just have to be contrary. What can you do? It's the internet after all.

Hehe I'm doing all I can... rant! ;) Anyway thanks to you and the others that actually tried to help :)

Salami 02-04-2012 12:15 PM

As Duce said: I love the idea but I'm no drummer!

Sorry for being unable to help, but I hope some other people will turn up.

Well and as I told Il Duce, the more, the merrier! If you are interested in joining, it would be awesome, the drummer will eventually appear :) We've set a private forum where we upload ideas, lyrics, tracks and so on, then good music should emerge from there haha
