I just bought this today. Never heard of them. Bought it after reading a review online. I needed to discover something new. Makes a change to hear a womans voice. It's actually quite a good album. Hauntingly good.

Are you saying that the name of Batlord has been spoken aloud inside your house? Now I just have to get your mother to say my name.

I always assumed listening to Bathory was a rite of passage in Norway.

In all of Scandinavia, actually, Y'know, since Bathory is Swedish.

I'm taking the batlord approach of 'it's all the same ****ing place to me.' You are too insignificant to warrant me caring.

Great Blackened Death

Belphegor are right up there with others for being the corniest black metal band in existence. I used to have a cd copy of "The Last Supper", and it came with this goofy insert of some pale, skinny, bald goth w/ ridiculous spiked arm things, ridiculous spiked shin guards, and a freaking ridiculous spiked collar for the damn dog in the photo. It was some sort of advert for a mailorder out of central europe. The cover art is about as ****tarded as it gets as well - baby jesus cut up like a loaf of bread, w/o any sort of gore.

It was a great conversation piece, no one could look at those liner notes, cover art, and advert insert & not laugh. It was an ok listen, too. Glad to see they're still as aesthetically ridiculous as ever.

v/a - we gave them the future and they wanted the past (tape)
portal / rites of thy degringolade - split 12"

hip hop bunny hop 03-21-2015 06:13 PM

tapes:
impetuous ritual - unholy congregation of hypocritical ambivalence
archgoat - the apocalyptic thriumphator
j dilla - donuts
madvillain - madvillainy

Frownland 03-21-2015 07:20 PM

Madvillainy is probably my favourite metal album of 2004, in all honesty.

Primeval Scum 03-23-2015 10:48 PM

CDs:

Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle Earth
Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
Neutral Milk Hotel - ITAOTS
The Cure - Disintegration

Puffnstuff 03-27-2015 08:24 AM

I just picked up the Japanese version of Lacuna Coil - Shallow Life for the extra tracks not present on the U.S. version which are IMHO the best ones.

The beats are better than I expected and the rhymes are usually above average... but Donuts is so much better. Donuts is by far the best post-2000 rap/hip hop I've heard.

Donuts is pretty damn good, I just like the jazzier direction of Madvillainy. Both are top notch though. I'm a sucker for DOOM's approach though, that makes it all the better.

The Road Revisited - Penance

Lost Paradise - Paradise Lost

I got majorly down when I looked up this Paradise Lost band.
1. This album has a ****ing 3 on rym (blasphemy).
2. The rest of their material sounds nothing like this.
3. The rest of their material is from my most disliked genre of "metal"
4. The band pretends this album did not happen.
5. **** me.
6. I imported the album in silence.

I think the three stars are warranted, as it's really only a moderately good death/doom album that just isn't in the same league as diSEMBOWELMENT or Thorr's Hammer. But their goth metal stuff is definitely snoozeville.

Electrophonic Tonic 04-11-2015 01:12 AM

I picked this up off of a recommendation from a friend. It's a mix of black and death metal, with death metal growls, black metal shrieks, clean vocals... and all the tracks are about slugs. When I first saw the song titles (Lettuce Prey, Gastronomicon, The Sound of Mucus, Salters of Madness, etc...) I wanted to dismiss it as a novelty. But, after listening to it, its a really solid metal album. There are a lot of killer grooves between the guitar and the drums, and the song structures are really well composed. I like the atmosphere too, which is dark but not in a depressing way. These guys are making some really cool metal and they sound like they're having a blast doing it. I have not heard a ton of newer metal albums the last few years, but I'd say this is the one I've enjoyed the most.

If you are interested in downloading it, the album is available for free on their bandcamp.

Spoiler for Gastronomicon - Full Album:

That's some pretty **** man. I don't own any fun colors yet, how much does something like that run you?

Did pick up Saint Vitus's Heavier than Thou at a con recently, some compilation I've never heard of. Excellent collection of some of their best. Its black, with some writing in the middle, so that's exciting.

Generally speaking, having a little design doesn't have a noticeable impact on the price (from a consumer point of view) unless there is some rarity associated w/ the design, whether it be a special edition or first one hundred or what ever.

This sentence doesn't make sense, but I think after deciding which Black Sabbath album is the best, deciding which Death album is the best is one of the greatest questions of our time.
